Martin_KerstenMemberI would like a advanced deployment toolbar button.
What am I looking for? Well – I would like to have similar behaviour like the run and debug button/action. You know pressing the button, the redeployment of the last performed deployment take place (like rerun of an class). You have a list of the last deployments. And you can manage all deployments.
I also would like to remove the link between deployment and project. Meaning I dislike to select my ear project everytime I am about to add/remove or redeploy it but having a source file selected (therefore no selected project within the deployment dialog).
So I would like to add deployment rules for a given application server and a given project. Best would be if I can change every default application server setting within each deployment and adjust some settings like: Start server if not running, stop server on un/redeployment and something like that.
I know it would be an amount of work, but most importent (currently most annoying) is the lack of a redeployment action.
Scott AndersonParticipantMartin,
Good suggestions. Once we get the 2.7/3.7 release out the door, we’re planning on spending our December tying up a lot of loose ends. Redeployment, or more specifically reload, is definately one of those we’ll be looking at very closely.

Martin_KerstenMemberThen I am looking forward to 2.8/3.8. Just try to project the features and behaviour of the Run/Debug dialog/actions and I am sure you will do a great job.
I wish you the best for your work!

Scott AndersonParticipantMartin,
Then I am looking forward to 2.8/3.8.
Good! We like our users to look forward to every update. 🙂 You might be looking forward to 2.7/3.7 too if you’d like an XML editor with content assist and a some really nice Struts support too.
I wish you the best for your work!
And thank you for the kind words and good suggestions for the product. We appreciate both.

Exactly what I was missing on the deployment toolbar… so I’m looking forward to 2.8 / 3.8, too!
Thanks,
mika
Riyad KallaMember+1, I’m betting this might be a small enough change that it could sneak into a 2.7.x release 😉
Scott, correct me if I’m wrong.
Ronald van KuijkMember+1,
Yeah Scott, come on… 😀
mikaMemberSo now?! Will it be in 3.8 GA???
Cheers,

Riyad KallaMembermika,
I’m checking on this now… being a versatile company has its ups and downs. One big up is that we are incredible flexible with what we can accomplish in short spurts of time, e.g. it only took us 2 weeks to integrate 6 new editors into MyEclipse from WTP… the down side is that our feature list and roadmap is really a moving target that is decided first and foremost by the users…. I think there were 3 or 4 options that we didn’t even have on our radar that became “high priority” for 3.8 because users really spoke up about them.
Dennis ByrneMemberAlong the same lines, is it possible to add a button to run deployment in the background (much like the building eclipse does)
Riyad KallaMemberdbyrne,
Its definately possible, but not currently on our Todo list… I have spoken with the team and we *do* have plans for the whole deploy/run thing for 3.9, so I don’t know if much will change until then. We want to get some more time after getting 3.8 out the door, deciding what to do with 2.8 and then developing a “TODO” list for 3.8.x and then 3.9. -
