Thank you for all the information, although without a description of what happened, how to recreate it, etc. it’s hard to figure out how to trouble shoot with this information.

Sorry, the tool to crash randomly. I’m pretty sure its when a JSP page with myfaces is source mode. Also I’m getting errors for the <f:verbatim> tag, it claims there is no ending tag when there is one.

I’ll try to determine in greater detail how to reproduce it. I was postiong that info on the hope that it was a known bug.

    Thanks,

    JR

    JR,
We have two developers that work on MacBook Pros, so if you can find a way to reproduce this we can test it right away. I appreciate your help in running down what might be going on.

Well its been a while since the tool has crashed. But tonight it crashed. I was in the viewing a JSP page and I believe I had highlighted some javascript code to search copy and paste for a msdn search. While browsing MSDN the tool suddenly crashed and exited again. I have a dual monitor system where I have MyEclipse in one window and reference material and my browser in the other. I believe the broswer window was active and no the tool.

I hope this helps. I had asked eclipse to install any updates a few weeks back, and I hadn’t had any more problems until tonight.

    Regards,

    JR

You had the Browser view in MyEclipse open and had defocused the window to go to MSDN, or were yo ulogged into MSDN inside of MyEclipse using the browser view?

No I was using IE outside of MyEclipse. The focus was on the IE window.

Today has been particularlly bad, seems that everytime I go to the rest room or leave my desk and come back MyEclipse has crashed.

I sure wish I had more info to offer.

Can you stop leaving your desk?

Let’s try something big here… can you download JDK 6, and when you go to install it, uncheck the JRE option and just install the JDK. Then adjust your shortcut used to start MyEclipse to use JDK 6 and see if that helps? I know some major platform changes are made in JDK 6 that can effect things like VM crashes and I’m curious if it would actually help.

Well that was fast, I had the tool open again let it lose focus to browser in IE and it crashed again.

    “J:\Program Files\MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 5.1.0 GA\eclipse\eclipse.exe” -vm “J:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0\jre\bin\javaw.exe” -vmargs -Xms256M -Xmx1024M -XX:PermSize=128M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M

    Any other ideas?

Any other suggestions would be great I have 4G of RAM so I can allocate more if needed.

    Thanks,

    JR

    JR,

I’m really sorry you’re seeing this kind of instability because it’s certainly not normal. It’s likely some sort of nasty configuration issue, but at first check all the commandline settings look correct. Since it happened more after you ran the updates, I’m thinking that you have a nasty plugin / dll loading issue.

Since the trace still shows you using MyEclipse 5.1.0, the easist, fastest way to get a stable MyEclipse 5.1.1 installation is to download and install using the “all-in-one” installer for Windows. It has everything you need so if you just point the installer to an empty directory you’ll end up with a stable configuration that works the first time you run it. Please let us know how that goes as I really think it will resolve this issue for you.

OK I’ve uninstalled the one I had and did the all in one install. Do you have any configuration specifics you suggest?

Especially to use some of this ram I have 😛

    Thanks,

    JR

    JR,

The installer sets up the shortcuts with the “perfect” launch configuration. You should be good to go if you launch with our shortcuts. 🙂

However, if you’ve got 4GB, you could always bump up the maxes that are configured (like double them) if you like. No harm if you don’t use it, right? 😉

Hi Scott, it just happened with the new version. I haven’t modified the short cuts, and I only had MyEclipse and IE 7 open.

    Thanks,

    JR
