I got a teaser to upgrade my Java Runtime engine and I did. Afterwards I noticed that if I set a break point my local host would hang and the break point was never reached. I also get messages that the Hot Code Swap failed and the VM may be inconsistant. I have a screen shot of this and can e-mail it to you. I’ve uninstalled both the Java Run Time Engine and the Java sdk (ver: j2re 1.4.02/03 and j2sdk_1.4.02). I reinstalled the versions that originally had and the hang still occurs. My machine has Windows 2000 prof. 522 meg of ram

We kind of need you to fill out the fields with your system information, not just hit the insert button (its not an automated script or anything).

The exception you are getting we’ve seen before and it usually results from a strange combination of JDK and system libraries. The fixes I’ve seen work usually involve upgrading the JDK (first) and then upgrade Eclipse and lastly upgrading MyEclipse. In this case you can upgrade all three. Is this an option for you?

can a revert to the old versions or is upgrading the only solution. I can upgrade if needed.

I’ve been scouring the web for things with that access exception and that DLL. There are quite a few and no one really has a good answer for it. Because of how much native work Eclipse does, its not uncommon to think that a slightly outdated version of a DLL somewhere could cause an otherwise harmless system call to fail like this.

Is your copy of Windows as updated as it can be? (Service Packs, Windows Update, etc.)?

I’d also suggest that you verify that you fully reinstalled JDK 1.4.1 on your system and then specify that it should be used to both start eclipse (-vm option) and is used to launch the server (JDK page under server preferences).

How can I verify the install version of the JDK and what is the -vm option?

Its probably a good idea to just uninstall and reinstall the JDK (or just reinstall it ontop of itself) as there might have been changes done to it that are not immediately noticable.

Also the -vm option is to force Eclipse to use a particular vm, see here http://www.eclipse.org/documentation/html/plugins/org.eclipse.platform.doc.user/doc/tasks/running_eclipse.htm
