Cannot create new class in new project

I’m having a bit of a trouble with a new project, so here is what I’m doing:

1. New -> Project -> Java Project
2. Options for the project:
– Create project from existing source (the target directory is empty)
– Use default JRE (Currently ‘JVM 1.6.0’)
– Create separate folders for sources and class files
3. After the project is set up, I am trying to create a new class (in a specified package) but I’m getting an error:

Creation of element failed.
org.eclipse.core.internal.registry.ConfigurationElementHandle

The file is created on disk, but it is completely empty. When looking at the error log, I’m seeing quite a few errors in there (4 errors – I’ve made sure to clean up the log before counting the errors). Please see the log below.

My environment is:
Mac OSX 10.5.8
Java 1.5
MyEclipse 7.5
Eclipse 3.4.2

Can you give some more information?
1. What are your installation details? You can get them from MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details?
2. How did you install MyEclipse? used all-in-one installer/pulse explorer/installed eclipse classic 3.4.2 and added MyEclipse plugin.
3.

org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException: Plug-in org.maven.ide.eclipse.jdt was unable to load class org.maven.ide.eclipse.jdt.internal.JDTCompilationParticipant.

I noticed some errors with maven. Can you disable maven, if you are not using it?
4. Are there any third party plug-ins listed under Help > software Updates > Add/Remove software?

2. If my memory serves me right, I’ve used the all-in-one installer.

3. The error seems to be related to Maven, but I am not using Maven right now. I am not sure how to disable it though.
But if I’m looking into Preferences -> MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench -> Maven4Eclipse tab I do see that both “Enable Maven4MyEclipse features” and “Enable all m2eclipse features” are unchecked

4. Yes I have a couple of other plugins, but they have nothing to do with Maven:

Bytecode Outline
Mylyn (Bridge, Java Development, Plug-in Development, Team Support)
Mylyn WikiText

and I have a couple installed directly into the dropins folder:
AJDT
Subversive
Sysdeo Tomcat

All these plugins are absolutely critical to me and my team to function. And they do not have anything to do with Maven.

Alex,
Can you switch to a new workspace, create a new project and try adding a class to it. Do you still get the same error?

We have been unable to reproduce this issue at our end and I just want to make sure this issue is not related to your workspace.

Hi,

I’m also expericneing the same problem when creating the Java class under a project. The Class creation wizard stays there but it creates the class in the package which is just empty.

I can’t see any error on the UI.

I’m using MyEclipse 7.5, JDK 1.6.0.07, WinXP SP3.

Could you please let me know where I can get the error or any relevant information which may help to pin point the issue?

Can you give the following information?
1. Can you copy paste your installation details? You can get them from MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details.
2. Are there any errors in the log file located at workspace dir > .metadata > .log?
3. What are the options that you have set when creating the class? You can send a screen shot using the pm button at the end of the post.
4. Can you switch to a brand new workspace and check if the issue persists?

A quick update on this issue. I’ve been able to get rid of it by performing the following:

1. enable Maven support
2. create a class
3. disable Maven support

Going forward it looks like I’m not getting this annoying error anymore. I hope I’m not speaking too early though.
