I downloaded myeclipse 5.5 and eclipse 3.2.2 on MAC OS-X and installation was successful. When I click on “eclipse”, I see the myeclipse picture but none of the special myeclipse features are available. For example, when I right-click on my project I do NOT see a menu item for “myeclipse”. What is going on?

Are you able to go to File > New > Projects > MyEclipse > Java Enterprise Project > Web Project and create a new web project ?

It seems like you are woking with a corrupt installation of MyEclipse. Can you install Eclipse and MyEclipse to a brand new location (previously unused) and test if the MyEclipse menu works.

Actually I have already done so a few times. I uninstalled eclipse/myeclipse , re-downloaded both and re-installed both. I even checked eclipse before installing myeclipse and everything seemed OK. Then I installed myeclipse and as I said, I see the myeclipse logo (a man standing) during startup but none of the myeclipse items are available in the IDE.
I had 5.1 before and everything was fine. I wanted to use hibernate annotations and so I upgraded.
I can send you screenshots if that would help.

Does you have a MyEclipse menu in the menu bar?

If you go to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, do you see any MyEclipse plugins loaded? Do they have warning or error markers next to them?

I see a MyEclipse menu in the menu bar. It has the following items: Screen Capture, Update Subscription,Add additional features, preferences, installation summary.

With help->Software Updates->Manage Configuration, I see hundreds of MyEclipse plugins and no errors/warnings.

    Problem solved!
    I had downloaded
    Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
I then downloaded Ecipse IDE for Java EE developers and everything started working!

    Thanks for your support
