Well, there are quite a lot of improvements. Basically there is something there for everyone. One of my personal favorites is a simple one within WTP: the ability to ctrl-click on a managed bean reference in EL, which brings you to its definition.
But overall, we’re all developers and we all just like to play with the latest and greatest. For many that’s what makes a job as a developer fun 😉
At my company alone I hear a lot of complaints from developers that each year they have to wait for MyEclipse to catch up with the latest Eclipse release. I try to rationalize these sentiments by stating that it’s probably better to wait for the first Eclipse maintenance release anyway and MyEclipse will most likely be just in time for that. Nevertheless these sentiments are getting stronger with the day…
I wonder though why MyEclipse didn’t decide to join the Ganymede release train. It’s true that a lot of code has to be ported for that, but this work has to be done anyway and the other projects that did join the release train must have faced the same problems.
Instead, just a few days before the Ganymede release, MyEclipse released ME 6.5, a version specifically for Eclipse 3.3. As was said earlier on this forum, I’m not sure where the logic is there. While everyone is focused on the pending Eclipse 3.4 release, an Eclipse 3.3 product might not get the attention it would otherwise deserve.
It seems to me that the time spend on getting MyEclipse 6.5 out of the door could perhaps better have been spend on preparing an Eclipse 3.4 compatible release.
Loyal WaterMemberin 7.0 version will matisse be available for mac platform too ?
Im afraid Matisse will not be available on the Mac platform.

Actually, I believe the ME guys would have been killed if they did NOT deliver 6.5 and instead they would release a 3.4 compatible version which does not have the new features in 6.5.
6.5 was a release which contained some new features which were requested for several months, some even almost or more than a year (Spring IDE 2 integration, Maven integration, etc). Imagine the reception of such a release which did not contain those features…
Best regards,
Robert

Robert, I hear what you’re saying. I did not intent a 3.4 compatible version without the new features that made it into 6.5, but of course with those included. ME 6.5 was *very* close to the release of Eclispe 3.4. There is always a lot of overhead involved with getting a GA release out of the door. My guesses are (but I don’t know of course), that if the time spent on getting the release “GA worthy” had been spent on 3.4 compatibility, then a M1 with all the features of 6.5 could have been released very shortly after or perhaps even at the same time as the ganymede release.
Of course, if a lot of customers were actually more happy with a 6.5 release for Eclipse 3.3 the day orso before Eclipse 3.4 came out, then that’s all the better 😉
David WilkinsonMemberJust spoted that MyEclipse 7.0 M1 is on the downloads area but when I an clicking on the link it is downloading the MyEclipse6.5.1 GA version rather than the 7.0M1, is it just me with this problem or are others getting the same issue.
Ton HuismanMemberIf you click on the textual link on the downloadpage instead of the big All-In-One button, you actually get 7.0.0M1-E3.4.0 version (with -132 in the link, -133 for Blue edition, when hovering, not the -96 link)

Riyad KallaMemberGuys thanks for the heads up on the bad links, we are fixing that now.
David CuthillMemberPost moved to correct location
Nathan RevoMemberFYI, I was able to replace eclipse with the x64 version in Windows XP x64 and MyEclipse 7.0 M1 responded very well.
henkMemberIs there any news about when the Mac or Linux version of ME7 M1 will be released? The release notes say the following:
For Linux and Mac: Will be available shortly […] Added on: 13-Aug-2008
It’s 16 September now (in my time zone, 15 at yours ;)) and still there doesn’t seem to be any version for either Mac or Linux available for download. Are these still planned?
Steve PriorMemberSince we’re getting deep into September, can you give us a heads up on how close we’re getting to the M2 release of 7.0?

I’m curious about this too. Especially, will MyEclipse 7 M1 for Linux be released before or after M2 for Windows?
henkMemberMyEclipse 7.0 M2 has just been released (although some of the links still say M1). But again, it’s only for windows:
For Linux and Mac: Will be available shortly

Hi, me too for the 7.0 M1 release. However, I can’t figure out how to do so with the M2 since the configuration is quite different. M1 was easy: just copy the dropins folder into the X64 release of Eclipse and you’re done. Now things have evolved, since the M2 is really integrated into the eclipse distro.
does anybody has already replaced the win32 integrated eclipse from the M2 with the x64 classic binairies?
cheers!

For stats records:
running vista x64 / Java 6.0_07 and 6.0_10 x64 / 4 GB RAM.
Steve PriorMemberOn the front MyEclipse website page the news headline announcing 7.0M2 points to the wrong article. The correct link is http://www.myeclipseide.com/Article82.html (lucky guess on my part).
