I saw a post for this same error (for a different DB2 database) from about a year ago, but the issue was never resolved. My database is the iSeries/i5 (used to be AS400). I have always seen this error whenever I try to generate DDL for a table for this particular database. I have connected to different systems (iSeries) with different releases (V5R2 – V5R4), and the result is the same. I’ll include the information requested in the other post:

What DB2 JDBC driver are you using?

Looks like I forgot to list the error message:

[SQL0204] COLUMNS in SYSCAT type *FILE not found.

FYI, there is no system supplied schema by the name of SYSCAT on the iSeries. The schema QSYS2 contains all of the SQL catalogs tables (e.g. SYSCOLUMNS, SYSTABLES, etc.).
