    HI

It’s yet another upgrade problem, I am afraid. Every relesae since 7 has been a reall pain – ever since you guys tried to do pulse the whole installation thing has gone wrong. Why can’t you just sort this out ?

I tried to upgtade to 8.5 by downloading the all in one thing. I ran it – it downloaded another 70-odd MB. It failed.

Now when I try to run MyEclipse, I get this
    !SESSION Tue Jul 06 08:36:27 BST 2010 ——————————————
    !ENTRY org.eclipse.equinox.launcher 4 0 2010-07-06 08:36:27.554
!MESSAGE Exception launching the Eclipse Platform:
    !STACK
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter
    at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200)
    at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
    at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188)

Although the upgrade failed, the in the config. ini says this.

    osgi.instance.area.default=@user.home/Workspaces/MyEclipse 8.5

Now that can’t be true ! When the upgrade fails, why cvan’t you guys rollback the installation ?

When I try to uninstall, it fails silently.

Any ideas what I tell my boss who needs me to fix bugs today ? Can I tell him I need an 8 hour day to upgrade my software ? This is way beyond a joke. I can understand some of the anger that you get on the forums on this site.

PULSE IS NOT WORKING – SCRAP IT.

    Chris,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. I would recommend you a clean re-install. Please follow below mentioned steps.
    1. Run the uninstaller.
    2. Make sure the MyEclipse Install Directory has been completely removed
2.1. Pulse Install Directory, on XP it’s under C:\Program Files in \Pulse or \Genuitec, and on Vista it’s under <USER.HOME>\AppData\Local and then under \Pulse or \Genuitec again
    3. Then make sure the pulse2.locator file under <USER.HOME> is erased as well
    4. Download ME 8.5 all-in-one installer from the download site, please ensure you validate the file size and md5sum matches that mentioned in the download site
    5. Alternatively, you can also try the archived update site. Please refer – https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/installation-install-myeclipse-using-archived-update-site/&highlight=&sid=97a3e1304db38455c6a9b18461649e19

    Best.

The upgrade via Pulse was a complete disaster! My entire ME env has been corrupted — it doesn’t even start now. Been told by Support that I need to wipe it clean and start a new full install of 8.5. A real pain…

I totally agree with Chris that Pulse should be scrapped. My advice is don’t use it.

    Rick,

I have replied to your ticket. You had terminated the process while upgrading from ME 8.0 to ME 8.5, hence your current ME profile was corrupted. You may not need a fresh install, you can use the re-install option available from Pulse.
