Content assist for EL in a JSF or JSP throws a NullPointerException. For example, trying to invoke content assist on actionListener=”#{item.setFullLabel}” when entering the property on the “item” object results in the error. Content Assist elsewhere in the page works fine. This may be an Eclipse issue, although I installed from the ME all-in-one installer. This broke around the time of the upgrade to Ganymede.

A typical stack trace in the log look something like

    tmccobb,
I was unable to reproduce this issue at my end. Could you please list the exact steps to help me reproduce this issue at my end.

Create a JSF page. Add JSF tags and engage content assist as desired to get a list of attributes for a tag, etc. No problems here.

Next, in setting an attribute for a tag, for example the value attribute in h:outputText, try to reference a property in a backing bean, eg.,

    <h:outputText value="#{bean.

and engage content assist upon entering the “.” to give you a list of available properties on the bean object.

This is where I get the NPE.

    Thanks.

    tmccobb,
I didn’t get any error. Can you go to MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and paste the information here for me. We are already working on enhancing the EL auto completele support. I’ll file this for investigation along with that PR.

I had waited to pursue this until after upgrading to 7.5 hoping that would resolve the issue but it is still occurring. Below is my Installation Summary

Did you try a new project and a new workspace? I’ll add a note to the PR that I have filed.
