Close the editor and right click on your file, go to Open With, then make sure you select MyEclipse JSP Editor. At the least you should get error markers in right margin.

For left-margin markers, make sure javac.exe is in your system path.

I am not sure what to do here. Developing jsp pages is taking too long without the debuger. This is why we have purchased MyEclipse. I may just have to go back to a previous version if I can’t get this resolved.

the slightest little detail helps us nail down what is actually going on.

What kind of detail? I have supplied all the details that I thought necessary. Is there somewhere in the help files I can get information? My log files are not showing any problems with my eclipse. I’m missing something, I just don’t know what.

I don’t know what “this” is, are you talking about the javac.exe suggestion I gave or are you talking about the Open With > MyEclipse JSP Editor suggestion? Did you be sure to close all the editors?

The reason I think something is up is that you should at the least be getting reconciler errors in the RIGHT margin, the fact that you aren’t really makes me think you are not using our editor. Do you have WTP installed? Check your <eclipse install dir>\plugins directory, do you have ANY com.ibm.sse.* or com.ibm.wtp.* plugins in there? If you do, then this is the problem. MyEclipse is built ontop of WTP, if you have another version of WTP installed in your Eclipse plugins directory then MyEclipse is most likely running into class conflicts with that copy.

I tried to open with myeclipse editor and I put javac.exe in the system path. I tried both.

I do not have any com.ibm.* plugins installed.
I do not get the error or warning rectangles at the right margin.

I do have the correct JDK installed? jdk1.5.0_02
The javac.exe path should be under jdk1.5.0_02\bin?

Is there any documentation on this in the help contents? I was looking for some and though I went through it all thoroughly and followed the directions, I came to no result. Which is when I contacted this forum.

Robb, no we only cover basic installation in the install docs, other than that you came to the right place.

Can you do me a favor and paste the contents of the Help > About > Configuration Details window here for me to look at. BEFORE you do paste it, look for the text “LICENSE” and remove any line containing it.

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_02\bin\javac.exe

You don’t want to put the exe itself in your path, remove the “\javac.exe” from the end so you just have this: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_02\bin

Also I noticed some copies of EMF and GEF in your Eclipse plugins dir, this may conflict with the MyEclipse EMF/GEF requirements that ship with MyEclipse especially if you are using newer versions of the EMF/GEF libraries. They will cause features in ME that use them to fail.

I removed the javac.exe from the path, (it wasn’t there originally, tried it cause nothing was working), and I removed the 2 plugins for GEF and the feature that I installed.

I did not install any EMF, just a jasper plugin. Nor did I see anything that may have looked like an EMF plugin. What are the directory names, I can try removing them too.

Any other ideas?

Oyvey… let’s try the ultimate sanity check here:

Go download Eclipse 3.0.2 SDK (85mb or so), and redownload MyEclipse 3.8.4 for Eclipse 3.0.x and install them both to temporary location, like C:\temp\eclipse and C:\temp\myeclipse. Let’s see if that works 🙂

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, busy.
Well, I tried your suggestion and the results were as follow:
Errors on right margin appear for syntax only and possible errors due to include files.
Errors on left margin do not appear at all.
Errors on right margin do not appear for variables that can not be resolved.
There are squigly lines throughout the file which correspond to the right margin messages.

I wanted to say that I was using an older version of eclipse, myeclipse, jdk, tomcat and all of this was working.
I am wonder if this may have something to do with the jdk that I am using. It is jdk1.5.0_02. I am using this because I am
currently using the latest version of Tomcat, 5.5, and it is dependent on jdk1.5.0_02. I will try to use a different jdk if you
think that I need to. I’m not sure what else there is that I can try.

After increasing the validation message size, I selected validate all and I was able to see error on the left margin!!
I will continue to fidle with this and see what else I can come up with.

Found the problem.

We use webservices here at blackdog to interface with a third part app. This 3rd party app requires some plain text in the XML files
sent to their services which myeclipse was seeing as an error. Well with a max of 25 visible errors, the validator was never able to get to my
jsp files. I will look through the help contents and see if there is anything else I can learn about the validator.
