malcolm_saxMemberIn short, I do not see the “instant-on debugging button”. I do see the MyEclipse Web 2.0 Browser button, however, and it appears to work. Similarly, I do not see the JavaScript Scripts Inspector. If I walk through your AJAX tutorial, for example, I see that the AJAX monitor works fine, but see absolutely nothing in regards to debugging JavaScript. It’s as if it is not loaded/configured or something. I am sure that it is something basic/simple.
More info … while I can create a JavaScript application, I find that there is no ‘Debug As …” option for javascript.
Nonetheless, everything appears properly configured. Maybe its Fedora Core 4?
**** Error (.log) *****
The only error mentioned is in regards to “no internal browser”, which I would expect since I have disabled the internal browser vis-a-vis the launch script for MyEclipse.***********************************

GregMemberAre you able to set breakpoints in the javascript files that you see in the “JavaScript Scripts Inspector”? You can right-click in the border of the editor and choose “add breakpoint”.
malcolm_saxMemberThere is no JavaScript Scripts Inspector view. Consequently, there is no place to set a breakpoint.
When I select Web Browser 2.0 … this perspective comes up and I can surf accordingly. In fact, I can surf to a remote or local AJAX site and can readily see the applicable interactions in the AJAX monitor … all as I would expect.
The ability to debug JavaScript applications appears to be ‘un’configured or not loaded, albeit the plugin(s) appear loaded and properly configured. When I select “Help -> Plugin Details” I can see three plugins listed that relate to JavaScript debugging (I expect). “More” information on these three references, as provided through this same screen, is not available–the select button is ‘greyed’ out.
When I look at MyEclipse Configuration Screen, I see a reference to two registered (I assume) plugins for JavaScript Debugging:
com.genuitec.javascript.debug (5.1.0) “MyEclipse JavaScript Debugger” [Active]
com.genuitec.javascript.debug.mozilla (5.1.0) “MyEclipse JavaScript Browser” [Resolved]Also, there is no additional information pertaining to JavaScript in the error log …
And finally, I am running the latest version of PHPEclipse, which I do not believe interferes with JavaScript debugging. The plugins for this application appear well isolated.
GregMemberIs there a JavaScript Inspector view available in Window > Show View > MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench > JavaScript Scripts Inspector
malcolm_saxMemberThere is no JavaScript Inspector view per your direction (Window > Show View > MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench > JavaScript Scripts Inspector), albeit there are quite a few other Views that come up under MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench.
GregMemberHmm, if you have MyEclipse 5.1.0, you should have this view available. Can you download the 5.5M1 all-in-one installer, which can be cleanly installed into a separate directory. Then using the all-in-one, could you try to replicate your problem? Then we could isolate this and see if it is an installation problem or other.
malcolm_saxMemberPoint of note, there is no All-in-one installer for LINUX. That said, I tried the All-in-one installer under Windows XP (5.1.0) and it worked just fine. I can readily see the Javascript Script Inspector view. I didn’t try it out, but note that at least it came configured.
I tried the 5.5M1 installation for LINUX and came up with the same result as I did for the 5.1.0 release. Still, there is no Javascript Script Inspector.
Perhaps you are correct and there is a problem with the installation script for the LINUX. Assuming you are using the same script for 5.5M1 as you are for 5.1.0 GA, then I would check out the 5.1.0 GA install under LINUX.
GregMemberCould you try the manual install on linux? It is exactly the same as on windows.
malcolm_saxMemberManual download (linux) works. I see the View reference to JavaScript Scripts Inspector. Thank you. I am confident this is all I need to ‘debug’ Javascript code, as you would expect.
I will go through the other downloads (linux) to see which downloads do/do not include JavaScript Scripts Inspector. I will post what I find under this topic and then close it out. Thank you for your effort. I am now checking out the Spring Tutorial for MyEclipse …
http://www.myeclipseide.com/images/tutorials/quickstarts/springintroduction/tutorial.html
malcolm_saxMemberNeedless to say, I can no longer reproduce the error that I had early regardless of the downloads. I have tried all (applicable) downloads for MyEclipse 5.1+ and have found that each shows a Javascript Script Inspector view …
My assumption is that a switch, setting, or configuration pertaining either to my Eclipse workspace (I am not altogether sure where to look for a reference here) or to my Eclipse 3.2.1 deployment. Whichever is the case, I am now ‘stuck’ with the right value regardless of my downloaded version of MyEclipse.
Thank you for your help nonetheless. I apologize that I cannot reproduce the problem readily–my guess is that I ultimately changed a setting in my Eclipse workspace, which I had presumed to be a constant throughout my test (unfortunately, I didn’t seek to make it a constant from the very start).
I consider my issue here closed.
RenenMemberI just blew off US$20 and about two hours to get the Javascript debugger. Can’t get a breakpoint to trigger. Had more success using the MyEclipse Web 2.0 perspective – but I would like to work in one holistic debug environment. Also, I am working with a JSP file inside of a MyEclipse hosted EJB container (as the editor helpfully advises me when I click on “Debug As…”). If this is not as simple as, set breakpoint, run, some sort of instructions should be communicated somewhere. I can kinda understand that I need to use your browser (but that doesn’t trigger the breakpoint)….
Bit frustrated.
RenenMemberthis may add some light: your javascript console is reporting an exception: “Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE” (trying to get the breakpoint to work in a version of the JSP page I saved as HTML and imported into Eclipse).
