jrmeyer_aspectaMemberWhat I did is:
– download the latest complete install-package
– install it without changing any parameters (don’t start MyEclipse)
– download the new pulse installer and start it
– type in the correct proxy IP and port, klick next/OK
– On the login screen, exit the installer and start MyEclipse
–> From this point on, for me everything was OK and I could install additional plug-ins from the internet.I hope this can work for you, too.
Best regards, J.
Florian FischerMemberI have the same problem. But it is worse than that.
I wanted to install Subclipse. I could not install it through their update site because of this proxy problem. So I downloaded the .zip file for an offline installation. But I still don’t seem to be able to configure a local update site. Everything I do blocks for minutes before timing out. And when I finally manage to see my local update site and ask to install Subclipse, it fails to install it.
Isn’t there a way to tell MyEclipse to work offline and stop trying to contact any server?
And since it insists on using “System proxy configuration (if availalbe)”, where can I configure the “system configuration” properly?

You can *manually* get this stuff to all install to a single location by uninstalling everything, updating the pulse2-locator file to point at the base dir you want and re-running the installer. This will put Pulse and MyEclipse into that dir for you.
Thanks, Riyad.
I think I finally got it working. Here’s what I did:
On a “clean” PC…
1. Install MyEclipse (The D:\Genuitec folder was chosen for the destination but, as is documented in this thread, the C: drive is still used.)
2. Make a backup of C:\Profiles\<user_dir>\.pulse2.locator
3. Uninstall MyEclipse.
4. Manually remove C:\Program Files\Genuitec
5. Edit the backup .pulse2.locator file from step #2 by replacing the existing path with the path to the desired install location (D:\Genuitec, in my case).
6. Re-install MyEclipse. (The D:\Genuitec folder was chosen for the destination again, and installs as expected).I hope I didn’t leave anything out.
Riyad KallaMemberNot so good that the installer guys took the liberty of ‘laying it down quietly’ to ease some ‘pain’. The same as assumptions, they always come back and bite you!
It was a management decision… for most users it was the right decision but for more advanced users like you guys, it has that annoying side effect of *always* putting Pulse Explorer in the standard install location. I’ll see if there are some ways we could have the best of both worlds going forward.
it took some time until I could try the solutions but now I’m glad to confirm that the 2. solution, posted by support-rkalla on 22/01/2009-06:32PM worked for me.
I’m really glad to hear that workaround did the trick. I know we got some fixes into this upcoming release of Pulse to correct this stuff permanently, but happy to hear you didn’t have to wait to get it corrected.
Thanks for the solution. I am going to try it as soon as I figure out where the pulse2-locator file is …any help there?
Ahh, sorry about that. It lives under your <USER.HOME> directory. So on XP, C:\Documents and Settings\<username>, on Vista, C:\Users\<username>, and so on. If it’s not there, re-running the installer will re-create it with the default location where the Pulse Explorer will end up. MyEclipse will install itself to whatever directory you set in the installer though.
Riyad KallaMemberflorianf,
Are you behind a NTLM proxy and constantly getting prompted for authentication, or are your proxy settings just not “taking”? I posted a workaround earlier in this thread here that allows you to override everything and manually set the proxy connection information and auth to work around incorrect detection — sorry for the hickup, this is designed to work “out of the box” and that is one of the things we are working on fixing so it does just that.
Florian FischerMemberIt worked for me, but it was a hard fight!
Here is how it went.
– Remove Program Files/Genuitec
– Run myeclipse-7.0-win32.exe I guess it is 7.0.1
Install to the default location C:\Program Files\Genuitec\MyEclipse 7.0
(takes a few minutes)
Select D:\myeclipse as workspace
MyEclipse starts, close it.– There is no C:\Program Files\Genuitec\Common\configuration\com.genuitec.pulse2.common.http
– run pulse2-win32.exe
It says “Checking connectivity with installation server…”
and “Unable to retrieve components necessary for installation.” with a HttpTimeoutException
I click “enable proxy” and I set the proxy information.
(wait a few minutes…)The first time I did that I entered only for proxy informations, not socks. I got a logon screen and I entered name and password. I did not enter a domain but I saved my credentials. BIG MISTAKE! It ended with a NullPointerException. Re-running pulse2-win32.exe did not ask anything but ran in the same NullPointerException. I had to restart the whole installation.
The second time, I put proxy and socks information. It waits for a few minutes and returns a new HttpTimeoutException. I try with only a proxy and no socks. This time it asks for name, password and domain. I enter everything, with or without domain, combining domain with name, but it keeps returning to the NTLM Authentication screen. I cancel.
– I check C:\Program Files\Genuitec\Common\configuration\pulse2.properties. It contains the proxy information.
– I run myeclipse.exe. It tries to check for updates. It asks for name and password.
I have to try a number of combinations. In the end, the combination name+password+empty domain did the trick. I don’t know why I had to enter name and password multiple times. Maybe it was connecting to multiple sites and was asking for the credentials each time.Anyway, I now am able to contact the Subclipse update site. But the interface is a bit silly. You cannot check all the modules you want, you need to select each module individually with “add software”.
Thanks Riyad.

The same for me!
Why did noone answer to this post?
I think you still didn’t get the importance of this problem.I spend a lot of time i actually cannot afford with all these workarounds.
After trying all workarounds i found the complete reinstall with calling pulse setup afterwards seems to work. But who has such ideas as “helping” developers with unasked “support” by a tool not chooseable?
A tool which does not work correct in most companies with a proxy and in parallel disabling you even to install local plugins?
A tool which disables you to install local archived sites by requesting to install each subfeature separately?
This is not very helpful.
MyEclipse is for developers, not for newbies! Why force them to use things they maybe do not want or need.Sorry, but we are thinking of kicking out MyEclipse now here at BOSCH company…
chigblMemberNothing mentionned so far has worked for me. This is an annoying problem and I expect a true solution!
Riyad KallaMemberGuys,
We are wrapping up QA internally on the Pulse 2.4 update that will fix support for /dropins support, annoying software selections in the add/remove flows, proxy connection issues, NTLM issues.
I would expect the release to go out by the end of the week — all we can do at this point is apologize for such a lackluster experience with 7.0 out of the box and try and improve it going forward.
thorwarzMemberThe ‘end of the week’ is over for a couple of weeks now.
Is there an expected time point for the bugfix release. The current release in the download area is still NOT working!
We would really like to use some new features in Eclipse 3.4 and MyEclipse 7. The current state of MyEclipse 7 is water on the mills of the developers fighting for IDEA as the company supported IDE.
Our current discussion is to propose to switch to IDEA in the next budget planning coming soon. That’s more expensive but it WORKS and contains some features we miss in Eclipse 3.3 and MyEclipse 7 but that are contained in Eclipse 3.4 and MyEclipse 7!!
Loyal WaterMemberthorwarz,
The pulse 2.4 update was released as scheduled a couple of weeks back. It has not been integrated in the installer. You will have to update pulse to get the patch. This patch will be integrated in the MyEclipse 7.1 release.
thorwarzMemberStill not working …
thorwarzMemberStill not working ….
pulse 2.4 does not install. When running the installer, it tries to connect to the internet and recognizes the correct proxy. But the the user/password/Domain is not accepted in any combination. So there is no progress to the previous situation.
Riyad KallaMemberthorwarz,
Sorry for the confusion, I think what Nipun meant is that MyEclipse 7.1 has been released and is now available from our Download page. If you run through that installer it should do a few things:
* Detect an existing Pulse install and update it
* Detect an existing MyEclipse 7.0 install and update itAre you not seeing this behavior?
thorwarzMemberHello out there in (can’t use) proxy world,
it’s becoming absurd now.
I uninstalled my previous installation of MyEclipse 7.0.1 an ran the installer of MyEclipse 7.1. A window with the title ‘Preparing Installer for MyEclispe 7.1’ appears. The progess bar runs to approximately 20% and stops.
A TCP/IP-viiewer shows, that the process tries to establish a http-connection to ‘ec2-75-101-204-80.compute-1.amazonaws.com’BUT THERE IS A PROXY, THAT DOES NOT ALLOW UNAUTHENTICATED REQUESTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no question for authentification information or anything else. The installer just tries to connect a couple of seconds and tries again and tries again and …
And that’s it. Nothing happens any more …
