Installation failure: DEP (Data Execution Prevention) security violation is being produced by the InstallAnywhere installer. This means, as you may well know, that the installer is trying to execute data as code, one of the most common means with which malware attacks one’s system. Google results show people recommending that you turn this off for each program that produces the error. That’s like saying that you should tell Norton AntiVirus to lignore virus warnings.

Are you familiar with this issue (wrt ME installer), and do you have a recommendation for users? ZeroG’s site is non-responsive, which does not exactly make one feel good about this. I will try the ME manual install, but users will need a solution rather than a workaround for the long term – some people may not feel comfortable with a manual install. Perhaps a word between you folks and the ZeroG folks?

Otherwise, as always, thanks for a fantastic product!! 😀

I just downloaded about an hour ago and installed on my laptop with no problems at all. I also downloaded and installed this afternoon on my workstation without problems. My configuration looks nearly identical to yours – XP SP2, Eclipse 3.1 final (clean install), JDK 1.5.0_04. Perhaps your download is corrupted???

I’m using Windows 2003 Server and I had to disable DEP for the InstallAnywhere program – else the setup wouldn’t run.

For anyone having trouble with the installer we suggest using the manual installer, that’s what most of us use (once you get used to it, it’s faster).

The DEP problem will only affect systems with DEP protection, such as users of AMD cpu’s (who devised this protection), or very recent Intel cpu, which have started offering this protection as well. You may have heard it called “hardware virus protection”. So – if your systems don’t implement this security protection feature, you will not see this problem. Perhaps I should have stressed that more as this is a somewhat new security protection feature.
