The Mono project (http://www.mono-project.com/) is maturing on Linux, Windows and OSX platforms. It has very interesting potential to allow .Net and Java to be used by the same developers due to their similarity, and now the availability on multiple platforms.

Also, because of how Mono uses iKVM, Java can be used in .Net projects.

Mono would have huge possibilities with an IDE such as the MyEclipseIDE plugin for Eclipse.

    If one could:
    – develop C# apps
    – integrate Java into .Net/C# apps
    – export Java apps to .Net executables
    – build desktop apps using GTK# or something similar

… this could be an awesome platform along side Java.

I love Java, but Mono has serious potential, and MyEclipse could play a significant role and capture a good market share by providing a world class IDE that works WITH Java … unlike the current IDE the Mono project is doing.

The two of them working side by side in the same IDE would just be awesome, and allow working in OpenSource/Sun/Microsoft/Windows/Linux/OSX worlds all together in ways currently impossible.

I’d love to see this pursued.

    Ben,
For such a large undertaking there would need to be a big community interest (or company itnerest) in having this feature then we would absolutely address the demand. You can create a poll with the details you want and see if people are interested.
