First of all, amazing product – in fact, best development tool puchase I’ve ever made. This is the only issue I’ve ever had with MyEclipse. However, I do need to find out how to rectify these 3.8.1 -> 3.8.3 update issues:

I followed the “special instructions” to the letter and had multiple problems. First off, I was unable to update via the update site. It kept complaining about being unable to download a *jonas* file. So, I downloaded 3.8.3 and updated via an archive site. The update ran fine this time.

However, I now have a number of issues. After restarting Eclipse, an error popped up stating that it could not restore quite a few views. This occurs with or without the -clean startup param. The Database Explorer has no views now, and there are none to add. The MyEclipse main perspective is missing some views, but not all. Also, Preferences has nothing in it for MyEclipse anymore. There are no views in the list (including Other) related to MyEclipse.

    So, to summarize:

    – I have no views in Database Explorer, and there are none to choose from
    – I have no MyEclipse-related views anyware, including under “Other”
    – I no longer have MyEclipse Preferences

** No MyEclipse files found in <eclipse>/plugins or <eclipse>/features **
    (other than possibly org.junit_3.8.1)

Rerunning update for 3.8.3 shows everything up to date.

Any help in resolving this would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris ❗

    Chris,

Problems with an upgrade are rare, but certainly not unheard of. Let’s try to dig to the bottom of it.

When you updated via the archived site, did you specify that everything should be installed where the 3.8.1 instance had been installed, or did the update go into the main Eclipse plugins area? Also, it’s very peculiar that there isn’t a log file since a log will be generated on any type of upgrade. Can you reverify the location at <workspace>/.metadata/.log? Another thing I notice is that you’re using JDK 5.0 and Eclipse 3.0.1 isn’t really built for that. It may or may not be an issue, but running using JDK 1.4.1+ is recommended. Lastly, can you look at our quickstart on Installing / Uninstalling MyEclipse in our documentation section here:
http://www.myeclipseide.com/images/tutorials/quickstarts/install/? Please pay particular attention toward verifying your installation and report any differences. Also, can you retry the -clean option (eclipse.exe -clean)? Since this rebuilds your installation configuration you really shouldn’t be getting messages about the inability to restore views unless neither the 3.8.1 or 3.8.3 installs can be found.
