I’m using MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench, Version: 7.5, Build id: 7.5-20090609

Attempting to perform MyEclipse updates, gives me the following pop-up panel:

Update Site Problems

Sorry to hear you are running into these issues. Can you answer few queries for me to get to the root cause?
1. Can you copy and paste your installation details? From MyEclipse IDE menu options click on MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Detail.
2. What is the old MyEclipse version from which you have upgraded to ME 7.5?
3. How did you upgrade to ME7.5?
4. What are the software you were trying to upgrade?
5. Do you have any 3rd party plugins? Can you list them here for me? You can get it from Help > Software Updates > Add/Remove software

Looks like you have dependency issues. The best way to fix would be to use Pulse. I would recommend you to do the following
1. From MyEclipse IDE menu options click on Help > Software Updates > Manage in Pulse Explorer. This will open pulse-explorer.
2. By default it will display the current MyEclipse 7.5 profile selected. Notice the right hand pane displays personal, shared and base software. Personal software lists all the 3rd party plugins and features.
3. Verify this list and remove the unwanted 3rd party plugins. To remove a plugin. Select the plugin, right click and from the context menu click on [remove]
4. Right click on “MyEclipse 7.5” and from the context menu click on [Re-install and run]

One set of updates are automatic, since the ME Dashboard comes up during startup. Under “Update MyEclipse Plug-ins” it shows :

Is the duplication valid ? Of course, checking the Install and accepting starts the errors (after a while).

Here’s the biggest problem that always shows up when I start the “Add/Remove software” menu item. There’s always an error panel that pops-up, titled “Problem Occurred” and then it spews the NullPointerExceptions (~30-40) that I’ve documented 1 sample of, earlier. Half the time, the whole IDE crashes and takes all the windows AND confirmation dialogs/panels with it. The error messages obtained from the log file directly are shown below (I’ve clipped the ends of most of the exception trace for brevity)

The trouble is that after approx. a minute of starting the Pulse Explorer, the contents (list of items on the left and the details on the right) freeze. The window is still movable, but display does not refresh at all (or at least ~30 mins that I’ve tested)

Thank you for the detailed explanation, this helped in quickly get to the root cause. Your old MyEclipse version was 7.0 and you have upgraded to ME7.5 using the MyEclipse Dashboard. You are seeing the above errors because of version conflict and missing resources. ME7.0 is based on Eclipse 3.4 whereas ME7.5 is based on Eclipse 3.4.2.
The best way to rectify would be to perform a clean install. Please follow the below steps –
1. Run the uninstaller.
2. Make sure the MyEclipse Install Directory has been completely removed
2.1. Pulse Install Directory, on XP it’s under C:\Program Files in \Pulse or \Genuitec, and on Vista it’s under \AppData\Local and then under \Pulse or \Genuitec again
3. Then make sure the pulse2.locator file under is erased as well
4. Install MyEclipse using any of the listed options here – http://www.myeclipseide.com/index.php?name=Downloads&req=viewsdownload&sid=31

Sorry for the late response. Uninstalling ME 7.0 (following your directions) and re-installing 7.5.0 seemed enough to solve this problem.
