I was wondering if someone from Genuitec can comment on MyEclipseIDE vs. Sun Java Studio Enterprise.
Sun is now offering their top IDE for free and I would like to know what features MyEclipseIDE has that SJSE does not (or vice versa).

An unbiased reply would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Z…

    Z,
We haven’t gotten a chance to “kick the doors” of Java Studio. I do like what they have done with NetBeans and the JSF Tool so I imagine it is probably nice; give it a try and let us know what you think.

I find normally when comparing two large scale IDEs like MyEclipse, Sun, IntelliJ, JBuilder, whatever where the IDEs start to shine is not in the first 75% of the race… they are all pretty much the same: autocomplete, debugging, packaging, etc. It’s the last 25% where they tend to differentiate and give you features you come to rely on: Visual designers, custom deployments, hibernate mapping generation. Stuff like that. So I think you’d probably need to work with it for about a week to see if it does what you need it to do.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. I will certainly evaluate Sun’s IDE. And yes you are 100% correct. The only way to evaluate an IDE is to use it for a while. And even then the experiance will be subjective.

I really like the MyEclipseIDE, and my company has a group subscription (6 licenses). But we are a non-profit organization and a price is always a factor for us.
MyEclipseIDE is still definatelly the lowest price leader when compared to some other IDEs but unlike the Sun’s Enterprise IDE it is not free.

I will see if I can post my experience with Sun’s IDE once I get it going…

    Regards
    Amir

We appreciate your group’s support of MyEclipse. We also realize that every work place is different, especially in the non-profit field every penny counts.

If you see features that you absolutely love, let us know.
