i want to be able to edit .jws file in java editor with compilation errors being reported.

now, I was able to open it up in java editor by adding a file association in preferences, but it still doesn’t highlight compilation errors, please advise.

You might try adding the file as a content type for the Java editor under Window > Preferences > General > Content Types > Text > Java Source File > Add… *.jws
