Marek CyzioMemberI try to change network connection settings from “System proxy configuration” to Manual proxy configuration, but every time I restart MyEclipse, the changes disappear.
Loyal WaterMemberMarekCyzio,
What version of MyEclipse are you working with? This was a known issue that was fixed in the latest MyEclipse release. Can you go to MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and paste the information here for us.
DSTOMemberI’m having the same problem with MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 7.5 installed last week on a brand new computer (no previous software). I (temporarily) stopped this problem with MyEclipse 7.1 on another computer, but I’m now also having that problem with MyEclipse 7.1 on that computer as well. I have a colleague who is having the same problem with MyEclipse 7.5 having upgraded from MyEclipse 7.1. Basically, we can’t get “Help->Software Updates->Add/Remove Software” working at all because we need to change the network proxy settings but they keep resetting and/or not working.
This means we can’t install important plugins (like subclipse). I’m almost ready to give up on MyEclipse and move back to Eclipse. Have read lots of forums but doesn’t seem to help me.
The Installation information that you requested of MarekCyzio, in my case (for the brand new 7.5 install), is:

Loyal WaterMemberDSTO,
Can you go to Help > Software Update > Manage in Pulse Explorer and bring up the pulse explorer. Now right click on the MyEclipse 7.5 profile and go to Preferences > Pulse > Network Settings and enter your proxy information there. Does that resolve the issue?
DSTOMembernipun – Thanks for your suggestion.
When I attempt to go to Help > Software Update > Manage in Pulse Explorer I get the error message “Manage in Pulse Explorer… requires a network connection in order to connect to the server. Try this again after network connectivity has been restored”.
This occurs on both my desktop and laptop – though I do have other network connectivity on the computer (eg I’m accessing this web page from the desktop computer). On the desktop it asks for authentication credentials for my NTLM proxy (once) first before throwing this error. I’m confident that the proxy it showed is correct and that the credentials I’m using to authenticate are correct.
Thanks for your quick response as I’ve pretty much run out of ideas myself.
support-shaliniMemberDSTO,
Can you add the proxy settings under window > preferences > pulse > network settings? Add the details of proxy server and port and choose communications tuning as with Maxium compatibility/native java network connectivity
DSTOMembershalini,
Thanks for your suggestion. I had already set window>preferences>pulse>network settings to have “use proxy server” selected with the correct proxy and port values for my network.Unlike the Windows>General>Network Connections – which resets itself to “System proxy configuration” and does not stay correctly set if I choose manual proxy (presumably causing my problems?) – the pulse>network settings do remain with “use proxy server” selected and my proxy server values correct. I currently have “Maximum Compatibility” selected – though have tried other radio-buttons, such as Extended tolerance for connectivity timeouts. Concurrent downloads is on “4: Standard utilization”.
Thanks for the suggestion, however.
support-joyMemberDSTO,
Sorry to hear that the above solution is not working for you. Can you check somethiing – can you run a tracert to http://www.myeclipseide.com and copy and paste it here for me?
DSTOMemberjoy,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I’ve been talking with our network guys. I tried the tracert but our network blocks tracert requests for internal-security reasons so my system wouldn’t give me any tracert data, sorry. The network folk assure me that this shouldn’t affect anything with an application / web browser etc. They have confirmed (again) that I’m using the right proxy. Any other suggestions would be welcome. I wonder if MarekCyzio (who originally posted the question that started this thread) has solved the problem in some way? Are others having this problem? Is MyEclipse doing anything “unusual” from a network access perspective? I don’t seem to have any trouble getting to this site (myeclipseide) using a web-browser on the same computer and my web browser has the same proxy settings as I’m using in myeclipse.
Thanks for everyone’s help, anyway.
Riyad KallaMemberDSTO,
1 last thing to try if you are behind an NTLM proxy is to go back to Window > Prefs > Pulse > Network Settings, and change the mode to “Native Network Connectivity” — we’ve seen that resolve NTLM proxy issues in the past, and that *might* suddenly do the trick.
DSTOMemberrkalla,
Thanks very much for that suggestion. It looks like switching tto “Native Network Connectivity” fixed my problem!
To be clear – for anyone else following this thread – When I changed to “Native Java Network Connectivity”, the first thing I checked was Help > Software Update > Manage in Pulse Explorer. Unlike previously, it now allowed me to get to the Pulse Communications Wizard – though it indicated “Encountered Connection failure: Unable to resolve IP Address; DNS unavailable: Pulse has been unable to resolve the IP Address for http://www.poweredbypulse.com;…”. I selected “Manual Configuration” option and just followed through the Wizard. I then tried to run pulse and it failed. So I went back into Window->Preferences->Pulse->Network Settings and noticed that something had changed “Native Network Connectivity” previously selected back to “Optimized connection settings” again. I reset it to “Native Network Connectivity” and tried directly to use “Help->SoftwareUpdates->Add/Remove Software”. This time it worked, allowing me in to the update software Wizards/dialogues.
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and thoughts – they were all much appreciated. It is now working consistently in “Native Network Connectivity” mode for me.
