I’ll add that we have a 105 user license due in mid-July. We are having conversations now on whether we will continue to use MyEclipse. Far too many of our support tickets have been for MyEclipse.

I’ve wanted to upgrade to MyEclipse 7 for several months, but its own problems have prevented this from even being an option.

I am now investing the time to build a new deployment for MyEclipse 7.1.1, perform the necessary testing, and deploy the product. If this continues to be problematic then I will have to lend my weight to the option of getting a different product.

We purchased MyEclipse with the belief that it would be more stable than stand-alone Eclipse and that it would have superior support. At this time I cannot say that this belief has been realized.

We are not going to invest in the Pulse technology. We do not need another product to administrate. We wish to be able to efficiently deploy our IDE to a new development PC or to redeploy to an existing PC and simply have it work.

I want to second the request for a non-pulse version. I manage a 20 user site where most users are still running 6.0 because I’ve never been able to get stability on updates with the pulse versions. I was having good luck with 7.0 and was just about to try to move everyone to 7.0. But then my 7.0 tried to update to 7.1 and never could complete sucessfully. Today I did a fresh install of 7.1 and pulse hangs when trying to install my favorite plugins. I think the Pulse technology is great, but I agree with other posters that your implementation is not stable enough for an Enterprise product. It would be great to have an all-in-one installer that didn’t use Pulse. It’s giving a black eye to an otherwise fantastic prodict, MyEclipse.

For me the biggest problem with Pulse is that Genuitec seems to be spending all their time trying to fix its bugs and not enough time figuring out why for example when I right click on a web project it takes between 5 and 10 seconds to pull up the context menu – other types of projects are almost instantaneous. This means that even once you get it installed and updated you feel like your programming in mud.

    sprior,

It is not true that Genuitec team doesn’t care about performace and is only working on issue fixes and adding new features. Genuitec team is coming out with a MyEclipse Lite distribution — this will tackle performance and also allow users to build out the IDE the way they want.

Can you navigate to Window > Preferences > General > Capabilities and turn off all the functionality you don’t need.

    Rob, LarryD,

Adding pulse to MyEclipse is a management decision. “Pulse” refers to both a provisioning technology platform as well as an end-user product (www.poweredbypulse.com) MyEclipse 7.x is built on the *platform*, used to manage and deploy updates, manage plugin installations and updates and so on. MyEclipse 7.x is *not* built ontop of the Pulse end-user application.
The pulse platform for MyEclipse will be leveraged to deliver a much more configurable IDE experience moving forward, and an eye towards “MyEclipse Lite” — an ala cart version of MyEclipse that can be built-out ondemand as you want it in the future. That’s all possible because of the Pulse provisioning platform.

    joy,

As the problem I’m talking about only happens when right clicking on a web project and not other types of projects I’m not at all convinced that this is a problem with too many features enabled. MyEclipse Lite sounds like a good idea, but not necessarily for this issue and I don’t want to just start hacking out features from my install unless I KNOW it’s necessary.

Just for our reference, can you paste your installation information (MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details) here for us.

Thank you. Seems like you are on the latest version. I’ll add a note to the PR.

I’ve noticed exactly the same problem on every version since 7.0 – I’ve tried 7.0, 7.1, and now 7.11 – same big delay after right clicking on a web project.

We’ve been using MyEclipse since nearly it’s inception. The Pulse update doesn’t work worth beans on our Windows based proxy system and that’s when you don’t have some of these update sites blocked by Websense or some other security mechanism. I’ve been patiently waiting for this to get sorted out. Hanging on at version 6 but this is getting ridiculous. Doesn’t MyEclipse listen to their users/customers? We need to be able to manage the updates manually and through other mechanism as we could in version 6!!!

    sprior,

We have a development release of ME 7.5 M1 where the dev team has added performance improvements. Can you please download this and check if you are able to see any performance improvements. We would appreciate your response and feedback.

    yblouin,

Can you download ME 7.1.1 using the 5th option of Manual install and check if this suites your requirements? Also for proxy configuration, I would recommend you to set your proxy by clicking on Window > Preferences > Pulse > Network Settings. Add your proxy settings and for communications try using maximum compatibility. If this doesn’t work, click Native Java network connectivity.

As it happens I had noticed the 7.5M1 availability just before you wrote about it. I’ve installed it and it does seem to have solved the performance issues I was seeing. After only a few hours to play around it seems like 7.5 could be the first release since 6.01 which I could actually recommend they install at work.

What’s a realistic timeline for 7.5 to release? I’ve had fellow users at the office breathing down my neck to get an Eclipse 3.4 compatible MyEclipse version and all releases since 7.0 have been to Genuitec what Vista has been to Microsoft.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you taking time to write this. Tentatively a complete ME 7.5 release is due in 2nd week of June.

I could not get 7.1 to work with our NTLM proxy. It would prompt for username/password what seemed like indefinitely (dozens and dozens of times) irrespective of the options selected.

If I run ntlmaps (NTLM authentication proxy server 0.9.9) and configure it to point to the corporate NTLM proxy with the proper authentication settings in the ntlmaps config file and configure Eclipse to point to the localhost ntlmaps proxy server then Eclipse Pulse updates work. Obviously something is broken/missing in the Pulse updates software if pointing it to a proxy that acts as a gobetween with the corporate NTLM proxy it works but not otherwise. The only difference architecturally is that ntlmaps provides the authentication vs Pulse. Hopefully this clutzy workaround will help someone else until MyEclipse provides either two versions (one without Pulse) or fix Pulse without having the paid subscribers needing to beta test it for them!!!

Pulse is still Beta as far as we’re concerned and shouldn’t have been made mandatory.

Sorry to hear that you are facing proxy issues.
I would recommend you to crosspost to pulse forums here – http://www.poweredbypulse.com/forums/index.php
Lets see if the below steps gets you going.
    1. From MyEclipse click on Window > Preferences > Pulse > Network Settings
Add your Proxy Settings and Select Communication Tuning either Maximum compatibility or Native Java network connectivity

Let me know if this works for you.
