Gerd W. NaschenwengParticipantFYI – I logged ticket https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=472259 with Eclipse.org for investigation.
El Capitan beta 3 seems to break all Eclipse-based tooling. Although Apple release notes state “Some versions of Eclipse may hang during use.”, this is not correct and so far all versions of Eclipse I have tested hang at startup – i.e. you are unable to actually use the application to begin with.
Hopefully this is only a beta related bug or something Eclipse.org can fix.
@Genuitec – you can easily reproduce this by just running the Online installer on El Capitan beta 3 – the installer just freezes and the UI becomes unresponsive.
support-swapnaModeratorGerd,
Thank you for pointing to the issue. As MyEclipse is based on Eclipse, you are seeing the issue with MyEclipse. We will keep a watch on the bug for the fix.

MyEclipse Support
Gerd W. NaschenwengParticipantNo problem, the same issue occurs btw also on the public beta released today. Since I was brave enough to update my work laptop, I had to now switch to IntelliJ which seems to be the only functioning IDE at the moment.
timwebbKeymasterGerd,
Just a quick note that there are steps available for downgrading to DP 2 — essentially install DP 1 from the App Store overwriting DP 3 (no need to reinstall OS), then you can upgrade to DP 2 avoiding DP 3.
Yes, a very frustrating issue. This also causes Eclipse RCP applications and others to break. The good news is that this will be fixed on the Apple side and does not require a new Eclipse or MyEclipse release to fix.
For better or worse, Apple did detect this before releasing DP 3 and include it on their release notes indicating Eclipse would break — though far down in the fine print and I myself am stuck in a broken state as well! Well, short of doing development under Parallels temporarily.
Tim
support-tonyKeymasterJust to confirm that I tried reverting to DP2 and MyEclipse starts up fine.
I guess this is beta software and shouldn’t be relied on to be stable. 😉
Gerd W. NaschenwengParticipantBeta 4 fixes the issue and everything is working fine. Sometimes the package explorer does not redraw, but this seems to be another known problem, but not a major issue.
@mods – could you please fix my embarrassing typo in the title (only noticed it now)
support-tonyKeymasterThanks for posting, Gerd. That’s good news.
Typo fixed (can’t do anything about the URL, though!).
