    Guys,
It took me hours yesteday but I did a ton of testing and there seems to be a problem when you install any portion of WTP from the update manager *before* updating MyEclipse to 5.1. I was unable to recover my install once that happened (I installed WST, TPTP, BIRT and DTP, then tried to upgrade to 5.1). I tried digging around the /plugins dir, removing things that I thought conflicted and just couldn’t get it working.

We have developers looking into this, looking for where the conflict is comming from, but the fastest way I know how to get up and running again is to download our All-In-One installer, install it to a new dir, run it (it includes the latest JDK, Eclipse and MyEclipse) and point it at your old workspace and just start working again (**NOTE: You will need to re-add any 3rd party plugins you had, but all your settings should be maintained in your workspace for you).

I’m sorry for this heavy handed workaround right now, I’m still pulling this thing apart to see what is going on. Thank you all for hanging in there.

    Hi,
    I had this problem, too.
Disabling JST and WST helped (Help->Software Updates->Manage Configuration).

    Cheers

    Riyad,

Thanks for checking this out. For now, I’m holding off on updating to MyEclipse 5.1. I will monitor this forum to see when and if there is a resolution to the problem.

    Richard,
Sorry for the confusion. There was a resolution to the problem, we implemented it on the 2nd day of the release… really silly mistake on our part, we forgot to bump the version on one of the plugins that changed between the 5.0.1 release and the 5.1 release. So when 5.1 was installed, it was loading the old plugin and dying cause it didn’t see the changes it needed.

If you do the update you should be fine.

Glad to hear that it was a simple fix. I’ll try updating and post my experience here.

    Riyad,

Still no go. The update produces the same result. Not only do right-mouse clicks not work but other GUI events are affected on both Windows and OSX (I haven’t tried Linux but I’m pretty sure that the experience will be the same).

I consider the incompatibility issue to be extremely critical. I like Myeclipse, but with all of the other recent updates to the Eclipse platform there is less justification for continuing using the product. In addition to the recent additions to the Eclipse platform, the lack of support for Maven is another sticking point. If the issue with conflicting updates is not solved and if the long promised support or Maven is not introduced, andif in addition the bugs that prevent some features for not working on OSX, I may cease using MyEclipse altogether.

    Richard,
I understand your situation. We would never encourage users to continue using a tool that wasn’t improving their productivity.

Can you detail how you performed the upgrade? Would you be able to start with a brand new install, to a new directory using our All-In-One installer that provides the latest stable Eclipse/MyEclipse and JDK releases pre-configured to run with eachother. You can do this in parallel to the install you already have so as not to derail any development until you are sure the new setup is working.

Also the Maven support is part of every conversation that takes place over here. It is not as clean cut as “ok, Maven support is in, yay”. The support itself is quite complex to integrate into the project model, not to mention the moving target that has become *the* project model. The amount of work for the initial support and the risk of needing ot “chase our tail” for a year while the dust settles is expensive, very expensive. That is the only hold up. I’m trying to tip the balance of the scale based on user demand so damn the cost, but management needs to OK it… they are smart guys, they aren’t going to do things that drive our users away and put us out of business. So I’m waiting to see what happens and adding my input as the user representative when I can. At the end of the day, the only reason we are here is to provide tools our users want.

    Hi,

I was able to find a solution to this issue using the MyEclipse configuration manager.

    What I did was:

    * Disable the J2EE Standard Tools (JST) from the Eclipse 3.2.1 configuration
    * Selectively disable everything under WST except for the Xerces plugin
    * Restart MyEclipse

Then, the problem went away and right-click was back!

For reference, I had an install of Eclipse 3.2.0 which I updated with most of the Callisto plugin set, and I updated all of those plugins to the latest versions before installing MyEclipse 5.1 GA with that as the base – when I did that, I got the no-right-click bug.

I was able to resolve this problem on my system by installing a fresh copy of Eclipse 3.2.1 (downloaded and extracted the 3.2.1 zip file). Then reinstalled myEclipse 5.1GA and right-click works again.

    More details of my solution:
    * My previous install was Eclipse 3.2 which I upgraded (via update manager) to 3.2.1. After installing myEclipse 5.1 I had the right-click problem.
    * In this version I disabled the myEclipse configuration and restarted Eclipse. (Not sure this was necessary…)
    * I abandoned that Eclipse version and installed Eclipse 3.2.1 from a freshly downloaded Eclipse 3.2.1 zip file.
    * Reinstalled myEclipse 5.1 GA (manual install) and the right-click now works fine again.

    Guys,
We appreciate you following up with your findings. For a bit more detail, some of you already found this, but the problem extends from conflicts with the JST/WST plugins from WTP and our slightly modified versions (to support the new validation exclusion).

All your different findings are very helpful for others with different degrees of customized setups.

    Same problem.
Install eclipse 3.2.1 and then do the Callisto update and
at least install MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 5.1.0 GA
Right hand button will fail on XP sp2 but it works just fine on windows 2000

Any updates on the progress on solving this issue? There must be some way to have MyEclipse peacefully co-exist with the standard Eclipse plugins. WTP is udated frequently and unless the issues surrounding plugin conflicts is not resolved I will be dropping my subscription to MyEclipse and will recommend strongly that my company drops its subscription as well.
