I was looking at your all-in-one installer for Windows the other day, and I wonder if it wouldn’t be a nice idea to ship Tomcat along with it and include a simple Hello world project.

In this way new people would be able to start experimenting with Java and JSP right after having installed MyEclipse. Too many beginners always complain that the entire setup fase of Java EE is too complicated. If Tomcat would be available and configured right after the installation, starting with Java can’t possibly become any easier.

    arjan,
Great suggestion and in the works, we should have something out by December I believe that is in this very vein… a sort of “here, install this, and start coding” type of experience… which is a far cry from what it used to be “install the JDK, then the platform, then MyEclipse, then your app server, then configure them, then pull your hair out, etc.”

Exactly. As a long time Eclipse and Java (EE) user it’s not a problem for me personally, but especially interns waste a lot of time on this, which in turn wastes my time when I have to explain it again or help them specifically.

“install and code” would actually be close to the C64 experience again (for people old enough to remember 😉 ), where you could just turn the machine on and start to code right away.
