Scott,
It’s a good question. We’ve always been a customer driven product which is why we offered support for things like Struts long before many other competators ever did; our customers demanded it. I don’t think we will be changing that strategy because there are just too many technologies out there to start targetting the “big ones” (not sure how we would decide that besides user demand). That being said we aren’t waiting for 1/2 our users to demand Struts 2 or Wicket or Tapestry 4 or JEE 5 or JPA or any of the any other technologies, we just wait for a serious level of demand from our users to popup before we look into a technology. For example Facelets has been on our list for a while and Maven2, the request threads for those are quite long. Wicket, while a great technology, only has 3 or 4 requests. Struts 2 isn’t much more than that at this point and then we have the Struts/Shale thing as well that has a few requests.
We need to be picky with what we attack, because everything we attack is a ongoing commitment. Just because we deliver Struts 2 support, you guys will want bug fixes and enhancements and feature additions for years to come. When add all that up, the support requirements and everything else that goes into a big feature like that, it gets very very expensive. So we need to pick wisely.
So the take away message here is keep requesting. If you get loud enough, we’ll succumb to your wishes 😉
Jesus, this request had been posted for more than 2 years and we still did not get this feature in MyEclipse yet. I am now using 6.0.1GA and still Struts 2 support is not here…
Maybe it’s time to think about switching to IntelliJ 7
Unmesh KulkarniMemberMyEclipse Team, – please show the results, or lose business.
I am planning on buying 20 licenses for my dev team. But we’re moving to Struts 2, and it’s not supported by MyEclipse. So we’re moving elsewhere, unless I hear a concrete commitment from MyEclipse over the coming week.
Jakub KahovecMember2 licences -> +2 for Struts 2
Peter L. BergholdMemberI’ll add my voice to the votes for Struts 2. When I talk to the Struts folks about various struts issues I quite often get a reply in the form of “well in Struts 2 you can…..”
barrinaMemberAdding customer weight to Struts 2
+25 license
fucintoshMemberThis msg was originally post at Jul-2006 and now is Jul 2008, we still get no Struts 2 support in MyEclipse 6.x.
Our project is using Struts 2 and MyEclipse 6. Maybe my decision to use MyEclipse is wrong!!!
Shall we consider move to IntelliJ or something else ?
livneMember+1 for Struts 2
mgutweinParticipantI hope Genuitec isn’t using the poll thread to determine need for Struts. It only shows 25 votes and clearly there is more requests for that here. I for one would rather see MyEclipse support tools that make my job developing software easier. If I need a tool to edit images I’ll use a tool designed for that. I let my ME subscription run out nearly 2 years ago but would renew it today, along with providing it for the rest of my software shop if Genuitec would provide a roadmap to Struts2. I just can’t justify it when I can do the same thing with no cost alternatives like jboss tools.
petem1030Member+50 for struts 2
pepepgMember+6 for struts 2
patricktsangMemberno worry at all.
IntelliJ 8 M1 is offering what I want.
Thanks
cboldonMemberStill no Struts 2 plans? I’m going to check out IntelliJ
valheruMemberAnother vote for Stuts 2. We’d buy 10-15 copies if myeclipse had struts 2 support.
SanjeevMemberwe are now on MyEclipse 7.0, we have like 8 licenses
Shifting our focus to Struts 2?
Any plans of adding this feature? -
