For 30 days before the end of the subscription a renewal popup keeps popping up, hangs Eclipse for a while, (most often there is two popups per startup!?!). This is most annoying. Is there a way to disable this notification process? It results in a loss of productivity and I shouldn’t be forced to update prior to the expiry date just to remove this annoying popup!

    Thanks,

    Yves,
The popup only occurs once per startup prior to your expiration.

PLEASE NOTE, that we used to do it *1 week* before the expiration, and we got a slew of people complaining that isn’t enough time for most purchasing departments to process an order for upgraded keys, so our corporate customers and a few private developers bashed us for “late notice”.

So we changed it to 1 month, and this is the first complaint I’ve seen about it since then.

I would also point out that for a while we had a “Do not show this again” check box on the bottom of the dialog, and we got the same complaints as before, that we were “hidding the subscription from the user”.

I’m sorry it’s annoying, we got pushed to implement it that way for the benefit of most users. Hopefully you aren’t getting it more than once on startup though… are you?

I’m having to restart MyEclipse dozens of times a day currently because I’m setting it up for our work environment (testing for incompatible plugins and new available non-MyEclipse plugins amongst many things). We’re upgrading both Eclipse and MyEclipse and the various java libraries we use (a multitude of them) from a year ago. This will end up as our standard setup. This results in my having to restart MyEclipse very frequently and there is that frozen delay when the popup appears. I can’t even dismiss it right away. I have to wait until MyEclipse becomes responsive which when you have to this frequently it’s very annoying.

Please consider making it a preference setting that way anyone that wants to turn this off has to intentionally do it and not a casual by accident change. Perhaps the preference could be how many days before renewal is due that it pops up? That way those who want longer warning than 4 weeks (not my case 🙂 can change it as well as those who want just one week.

I was hoping this setting was already built-in and I simply didn’t know where.

    Thanks,

    Yves

oh… in that case yes I can see it being pretty annoying since you are restarting so much.

and there is that frozen delay when the popup appears.

That *might* actually be the Quick Installer checking for updates in the background. You can try and turn that off under Window > Prefs > MyEclipse > Community Essentials, then uncheck the check box. (NOTE: You can invoke this manually from MyEclipse > Add Features…)

I will certainly file it for the dev team and management to have a look at. I appreciate you feedback, we don’t want to be pissing our users off.
