    We have been using MyEclipse for about 3 weeks. Yesterday, MyEclipse started showing “Table Synchronization” in the lower right corner. I was able to locate a note on something similar to this on the JSP editor:

    It is doing it from moment I start myeclipse to when I am forced to close it. I cannot restart myeclipse without rebooting (locks the .lock file). I have tried using the -clean option.

    The JSP link above suggests replacing myEclipse with a newer version. There are a number of developer’s at my site who would need to be updated and they are in the middle of a project. Since we use clearcase remote client for eclipse this is going to be a big hassle.

    I am responsible for supporting all of the developers.

    a. Will updating the MyEclipse fix this issue.
    b. Is there a way to do this without having to uninstall
    c. Will the new version continue to support jdk 1.3.1 as a runtime.
    d. Could it be something else (I have included config and log)

    4.1.1 is latest stable version MyEclipse.There is version 5.0M1 for eclipse 3.2
    It looks that your clear case client can’t connect to remote site (timed out).It can be
    network problem.

    Actually that is not an issue. This error problem occurs whether or not I am connected to the ClearCase server. I am not saying the remote client is not responsible, just that that message does not appear to be related to the problem. There is another weird behavioral side effect to this. I can not long copy and paste entries of any type, and errors appear and disappear on files esp. XML. Doing a clean fixes some and gets rid of others. Occassionaly, they all go away. I usually have to ‘touch’ a file though to make this happen. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    I suppose that your ClearCase plugin try connect to server in background (without your intervention).I’m not sure – ClearCase isn’t part of MyEclipse

    I don’t sure for your error in XML, but it’s possible that you have problem if use some DTD which ME doesn’t know – you have to be connected to Internet for first download this DTDs

    Can you send concrete xml example and describe problem in more details

    In addition to what snpe said I do see a lot of errors pertaining to the clearcase plugin in your log file, it is possible that the plugins intervention or control over the filesystem’s resources could be screwing up MyEclipse’s functionality. And no there isn’t a newer version for you to upgrade to just yet.

    Can you find a test case or series of steps that reproduce the problem consistently? If you can, then I would suggest a clean install of just MyEclipse.

    You can download and run that and open your existing workspace (forget about the clearcase plugin for now). If MyEclipse is working and you have no problems, try and add the clear case plugin to that install and see if it keeps working or if it dies.

    These steps can be time consuming and I would encourage you backup your project and even the workspace before you try them so you don’t run into any issues where you can’t work with your project in the new workspace. Also be sure to keep your old install around.

    As a support personel I can say that I have seen invasive source control plugins cause much bigger problems with this before in the past, so I’m not ruling it out yet.

    I will try the clean download. We have since moved to the stand alone clearcase plugin for the other developers. It mostly works, but occasionally they are required to move the classes folder from web-inf in order to build, and either clearcase or MyEclipse keeps being unable to read the .classpath even though it is marked as private in ClearCase. What is really weird is that an external build works fine, but MyEclipse has the problem even though I know it appears to be a ClearCase problem.
