Eric GlassMemberI really hope that MyEclipse will support Tapestry, because we are never going to use JSF in the software we develop and we are moving away from JSPs. We have developers that know HTML and other programming languages other than Java, that can help us with our projects based on Tapestry. Right now it is hard for me to sell MyEclipse to the management and other developers.
Eric Glass
Riyad KallaMemberEric,
We will support whatever technologies our users need us to support…. and I would like to add that this thread is 4 pages long… that’s 4 pages of people telling us they want Tapestry support. We will get a plan nailed out after 4.0 comes out and see what we can do for Tapestry.
cayatesMemberAnother Tapestry user here. I’m new to Tapestry, and loving it so far. A better IDE tool such as MyEclipse would be great, and I’m sure that I would purchase MyEclipse if that were the case.
I would like to see:
Visual page/component/library flow, with quick options such as; right click->
override pageRender, beginPageRender, etc.
Create listener
Goto a parameter/property visual editorOGNL context assist would be great, although I think would be technically challenging.
Thanks!

Hhah, that’s the spirit.
DanielPMemberHi all,
I’m relatively new to web development so i cant give any really solid comparisons to anyother technologies and all I have used since finishing uni was tapestry but I’ve found it nice to be able to easily reshape the website and not have to worry about what I have placed where(with the exception of foreach type components but they’re not much problem) aslong as the components get closed.
As for tapestry support in eclipse, I’m using WSAD which to my knowledge is eclipse with a little bit extra and an IBM box. I found that when I added Spindle in It made tapestry development easier. It still leaves some to be desired but it is a good tool.
Cheers,
Daniel
glongmanMemberA quick note Daniel. I understand why you say the version of Spindle you use leaves something to be desired. The versions of Spindle that run in WSAD are not the latest or greatest. Spindle strives to keep up with Eclipse as it evolves and WSAD is still 2.1 based.
As a lone gun building Spindle it’s tough to support old versions of Eclipse (on a going forward basis) without adding so much overhead I have no time left to do anything else
KindOfWhatMemberwould be huge to have a possiblity to either
– do html design with myeclipse html/css editor
– do source-code design with spindlecurrently I am using both. Pity is, that I have to close all html files to switch from one editor to the other
an intermediate view (like the “view tags” of DreamWeaver) might be helpfull too.
to summarize: I do use myeclipse & spindle already now. Any integration effort would be a great bonus!
nirvdrumMemberFWIW, I don’t currently use MyEclipse since Spindle has mostly met my needs and I’ve made due with other things. If MyEclipse had native Tapestry support though, I’d make the purchase without a doubt.

Orestis MarkouMemberHaving toyed a bit with Spindle, I think that the best think would be to integrate it with MyEclipse. Spindle’s XML editors just provide some code-assist to Tapestry related tags, without all the advanced features of MyEclipse (such as tag completion etc). It also handles the jwcid attribute of the HTML tags, and checks if the id exists in the specifacation file. I think that this integration would be very easy for MyEclipse developers.
I’m waiting the outcome of the discussion between the Spindle developer and the devleoper team of MyEclipse in EclipseCon.

I’ve kicked an email managements way. I don’t know if they are in a position to comment yet (so they might not) but I just let them know there was interest here in this forum.
Riyad KallaMemberJust got this reply back guys:
Discussions with Geoff were very positive and we’re currently investigating
various scenarios that would allow us to work together to add Tapestry support
to MyEclipse. So things are looking good!
Orestis MarkouMemberThat’s good to hear!
cayatesMemberAny guess on when we could expect to see this release containing Tapestry support? Ballpark would be fine..
Riyad KallaMemberNo ballpark guys. We are still in close contact with Geoff but nothing has been decided yet.
