Martin_KerstenMemberI have a problem. I am using various workbenches at the same time (currently three). I have now experienced a problem with the subscription key. MyEclipse IDE complains about to many users are using my key. Then it prints out two IP adresses of the also users comming up with two times the same ip (mine).
Now it said this incident is logged down and some of the features are disabled , luckily the program does not say which one it is. Looks like I am looking for easter-eggs now.
After all I would like to deactivate the myeclipse plugin for all of my workbenches and only keep it activated for one.
I will give that a try.
What bothers me most is the problem of altering my subscription state. I would like what happends now. It looks like this is treaten like a license viaolation or something else. Maybe you guys should correct that viaolation issue by comparing the ips and dont bother for one ip using verious instances of MyEclipse by using the same subscription key.
Thanks!
PS: I am not angry and I am not sure if I wrote a non-polite message. You know I am not a native english speaker. So dont take this as an offense.
Riyad KallaMemberMartin,
We are sorry you ran into this limitation, unfortunately we cannot discount the importance of IP address as a central server could be setup to host an unlimited number of MyEclipse instances if we did ignore that.
Martin_KerstenMemberUhm right. I would like to see a note or somewhat and even clearify the message being thrown at ‘viaolaters’. You know I was a bit scared since I didn’t know if it is a permanent issue, was I banned or something… . You know just to keep things clear and simple. It looked like Microsoft pointed a blue screen at me and shoot a dialog bullet. The hit didn’t felt that good.
Riyad KallaMemberMartin,
Thank you for the feedback, I will pass this by the team so we can make the message less harsh.
Martin_KerstenMemberOk thanks!
donparkMemberI just got the same message and came running here to see what I am supposed to do.
I am using MyEclipse on my laptop so I can use it when I am moving about.
I also have a desktop which I use when I am at my home office because it’s much faster and much more memory and storage. I don’t normally use both of them but I sometimes do to sync configuration and the set of plugins I use.
Aside from those two, I also have VMware instances with Eclipse running inside for debugging and testing purpose.
Now, am I suppose to buy multiple subscriptions? I realize that MyEclipse needs to prevent piracy but I think some leeway is necessary to allow people like me to use MyEclipse without having to purchase subscription for every machine and VM instances.
A reasonable threshold IMHO is at most two simultaneous instances of MyEclipse running. This will allow me to compare and copy configurations across machines but will prevent piracy.
BTW, how do I restore the disabled features?
Riyad KallaMemberdon,
Please email subscriptions@genuitec.com with a description of your problem (maybe copy-paste your post) and they will take care of you.The disabled features will be reenabled when you stop violating the key… no that sounds harsh but it just means “stop using so many concurrent copies that it makes the license manager scared”. How many instances you can use at the same time depends on what you work out with the subscription folks, but they are reasonable people so you shouldn’t have any problems.
donparkMemberGee that was fast. I do what you suggest, Riyad.
BTW, I think “no prolonged simultaneous use of multiple MyEclipse instances” approach is a good compromise where ‘prolonged’ could be 30min~1 hour. If two people are sharing one subscription, they will be encumbered enough to make $30 very reasonable. Upon detection of such violation, I think it’s reasonable to disable both instances until one instance remains active. I don’t know how your detection mechanism works so this solution might be difficult to implement though.
Riyad KallaMemberDon,
Thank you for the suggestion, we certainly want to do what is best for our users while still enforcing our sales… I will pass your suggestions by management and see what they think.
donparkMemberThanks, Riyad. I sent the message to subscriptions@ as you suggested. I also found out why I got the “too many user” message just now although I have been using MyEclipse this way for a while.
The instance of Eclipse running on my laptop was still running although there wasn’t any window visible. My guess is that hibernate somehow screwed up when I left my client’s office couple of hours ago. I only found out when I couldn’t use the desktop to debug my webapp and tried the laptop one to see if I could. Anyway, I closed that and now I can debug my webapp on the desktop. For a few minute there I thought I would have to spend a quiet romantic evening with my wife instead of slaving over keyboard. Whew! ;-p
