    Hi,
I am going nuts over this issue. Since today morning the hot deployment/code replacement stopped working with MyEclipse deployed to Tomcat 6.0. No configuration changed in both my IDE and the Tomcat AppServer. This was working fine for months and all of a sudden it is not working for me today.

    I have tried the following:
    1) Created a new workspace, checked out from CVS, deployed to Tomcat in Exploded mode, started application in debug – made code changes – the changes are not reflected.
    2) Opened an older workspace which I am sure was working, deployed again to Tomcat in Exploded mode, started application in debug – made code changes – does not work.
    3) Removed Tomcat completely, re-installed tried the above two steps again – still does not work.

The only work around is to deploy every time I make a code change and this is really affecting my deliverables.

    Environment:
    ======================
Windows 7, MyEclipse Blue 9.1, Using Tomcat Server Connector to deploy to Tomcat 6.0.29
Deployment in Exploded mode and starting application in DEBUG mode

Please let me know if you need any more details from my side.
I am pasting the installation details below and attached the error log from the past two sessions. Similar errors are seen in the error log since today morning.

Looking forward to a faster resolution since this is greatly affecting my delivery schedule.

    Thanks,
    Saran

    saranova ,

Sorry that you are seeing this issue.

    1. Can you check if you have changed anything in the project > Properties > MyEclipse > Deployment Assembly ?

    2. Can you please try deploying the project to MyEclipse Integrated Tomcat to check how it works?

    3. Can you also try creating a simple web project and check if that hot deploys fine on Tomcat 6?

Let us know how it works for you.

    Swapna,
Tried the points you had suggested.

    1. Can you check if you have changed anything in the project > Properties > MyEclipse > Deployment Assembly ?
I do not see the ‘Deployment Assembly’ as an option. Are you referring to Project Properties->MyEclipse->Web->deployment tab? This did not change.

    2. Can you please try deploying the project to MyEclipse Integrated Tomcat to check how it works?
Deployed to MyEclipse Integrated Tomcat – started in Debug mode – made code changes – Changes are still not reflected.

    3. Can you also try creating a simple web project and check if that hot deploys fine on Tomcat 6?
Created a simple struts web application – deployed to both MyEclipse Integrated Tomcat and tomcat 6 – AND IT WORKS! – when I debug and make changes it is perfectly working fine.

So what has gone wrong in my existing project? What should I do to get that project working again?

    Regards,
    Saravanan

    saranova,

The deployment assembly page is part of MyEclipse 10, so if you’re on another version, you wouldn’t see it (and it wouldn’t affect your process) – so we can ignore this.

The fact that your issue is not resolved even with another Tomcat install AND the fact that it does work with a new web project indicates that the problem is with your project and not with the Tomcat installation.

Could you go to Project > Properties > Java Build Path and check the output folder for your source folders? You would need to check the output folder that is globally set and by chance if you have set an output folder per source folder (which should not be required). The output folder should be set to WebRoot/WEB-INF/classes

What if you make a change in a JSP or simple HTML file and save that – are those changes reflected without redeployment?

Could you also paste or attach your .classpath and .project files here please?

    #324901 Reply

Brian – here are the details:
The output folder for my main war project is set to: myProjectName/Web Content/WEB-INF/classes

If I make a change to JSP or .properties file – it is reflected immediately in the deployed tomcat location – I can see that the timestamp changes. It is only the .java files for which the change does not get reflected.

Hi Support team – thanks for your help and time.
I have solved the mystery. For some reason the maven dependency was picking up my compiled jar files instead of the workspace projects. When I closely examined the Maven dependency hierarchy I found that my dependent projects where being referenced as jar files and not actual source contents. Now everything is back to normal and hot code replacement works fine.

Thanks again for your help, support and time.

    Best Regards,
    Saran
