How do I disable the automatic closing of xml and jsp comment tags?
I went to MyEclipse>Preferences>MyEclisps>Files and Editors>JSP>JSP Typing and unchecked Automatically close>JSP comments
and I went to MyEclipse>Preferences>MyEclisps>Files and Editors>XML>XML Typing and unchecked Automatically close>Comments
But when I type in in the <!– start of comment string, MyEclipse automatically inserts –>. Damn that pisses me off that I have to delete that crap. What a frigging useless PIA feature!!!

I know, this behavior can be terribly irritating. For XML files, the XML preference you indicated should work – does it not work for you? I will consider changing the default on this preference too.
For JSP files however, we were able to replicate the problem where the preference was not being respected. This bug is being tracked against our 9.0 GA release right now.
