krausestMemberWhen 3.8 GA was announced it was clear to me that I must update to it as soon as possible, since the Beta versions did a great job and GA sounds like “less buggy” (Though I didn’t run into many bugs with the Betas).
Anyway 3.8 GA is really annoying. I can’t understand that so many changes were introduced between Beta 2 and GA. The JSP Editor worked OK in Beta 2 and is horrible in GA. It takes 3 seconds to open a JSP page and there are lots of useless validation errors in yellow and red moving on the right with CPU running at full power and for classes there’s no longer an import added automatically, but their full name is inserted. I can’t even turn the validation off! I know that this is a bug and it will be fixed, but this simply must not happen from beta to GA!
I’ll see if I can work with GA or have to switch back to Beta 2.
As for today I’m pretty unhappy with Myeclipse.
Never again will I install a new version of Myeclipse for a running project.
Maher MasriModeratorMyEclipse 3.8.0 GA was an ambitious project to establish parity with Tier I J2EE IDEs. The Webtools code contribution by IBM presented a unique opportunity to offer MyEclipse customers world-class capabilities in a unfired source editing framework. In our haste to integrate these capabilities we under-estimated the number of bugs in the code and over-estimated our ability to fully test the combined platform.
The good news is that the worst is behind us. The development team is working non-stop to resolve all reported bugs and should have an update patch very shortly. We are also convening a product advisory board made up of our most outspoken customers to provide external and hands-on assessment of overall quality before releasing a product.
We appreciate your patience and continued support.

snpeMember3.8 GA do great work – There is bugs because myeclipse use IBM contribution
and it is really big contributionI think that myeclipse have to make release (or only update bugs, yet better) more offen and close bugs from community
regards
Guillaume BINETMemberHi all,
Yes, really next time be careful simply about the name of the release.
The beta test was perfect, during 6 month I had very few problem with myeclipse in a production environment.
I lost a great deal of time because I blindly upgraded the product that was completely unusable for our project and lost my setup because I had to go back and forth between beta and release to be sure that it was not problems on my side.
This one is not the 3.8GA, it is clearly a 4.0 alpha.
Too much new feature to be a stabilized product from the 3.8 beta2.
MyEclipse is a great project and I like this product but please never do that again, it costs really too much.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Scott AndersonParticipantgbin,
You’re absolutely correct. Going forward we’ll be going to milestone builds followed by release candidtates followed by a final version, just like Eclipse does. You definately won’t be surprised like you were this time, we promise. Sorry again for the inconvenience and the time you spent. Trust me, we definately learned our lesson on this one.
Brandon ThompsonMemberSo what is the ETA on the first maintenence release for 3.8 GA?
Scott AndersonParticipantVery soon. Friday at the earliest, Monday at the latest.
nat101MemberIt’s better to be a few days late, than have it blow up again. No need to haste!! No one is chasing you!
You have no real competition, don’t let the wtp burn your qc schedule. The wtp has a long way to go. And anyhow, your support is worth the admission price.Although I am not yet a customer, I think you should start raising the price on a steady basis, like $10 every 6 months. (People lock in at the rate they joined.) This would give an incentive for undecideds to jump in ‘now’. Also people will appreciate the support value they get out of MyEclipse. (Why are people buying Suse or RH, when they can dl it for free. Support.)
I wish you a quick recovery outta the current hole, along with a bright future.
My $0.02.-nat (about to become a customer. @ 29.95 -before you raise the price!) 😉 😉
Riyad KallaMembernat we appreciate the support! We always love having new subscribers.
donparkMemberEgad. I just downloaded 3.8GA to give it another try on a fresh project but I guess I’ll have to wait a few more days.
Scott AndersonParticipantDon,
Thanks for you patience. 3.8.1 will be out momentarily.
