Yesterday I downloaded MyEclipse M3 for Win32 and installed to the existed Eclipse 3.1, on a Win2000 Pro platform. I opened a JSP and the Visual Editor view opened, but in the Design view it displayed nothing and it wasn’t editable. I reinstalled a “pure” Eclipse and installed MyEclipse to it but the result was the same.
In my notebook, the OS is WinXP SP2 and the Eclipse edition is the same as the previous computer. I installed MyEclipse on it and the Visual Editor worked! However, there was another problem. When I open the first JSP, it displayed nothing but a gray page. I opened another page it displayed the Visual Editor and the first page could be edited too. So strange!

    JDK:1.5.0_03
    Eclipse:3.1.0 Build id : I20050627-1435
    MyEclipse:3.9.310 Build id:20050808-4.0-Milestone-3
    OS: Win2000 Pro SP4-Not Work; WinXP SP2-Work

    Oh, the IE version problem!
After upgrading to IE6 from IE5 on the Win2k platform, it works!

I’m glad you figured it out and posted the followup to help others. IE6 is required for the visual designer to operate properly on any Windows platform.
