Please continue to allow this configuration, or even better start supporting it. I’m hesitant to post this comment in fear the next release of MyEclipse 7 will disallow this configuration.

Recently I downloaded the 7.0 M1 beta of MyEclipse to check out the new features and once again explore 64-bit compatibility. So far I’m very impressed. My work machine is running Windows XP 64-bit and I’ve been waiting forever to get a version of eclipse/MyEclipse which would run with a 64-bit JVM. I am happy to comment, with this release I was able to install the 64-bit jvm from sun, download the x64 version of eclipse 3.4 and copy the “dropins” folder and eclipse.ini file straight over. Eclipse started up like a champ! I’ve been running this way for 2 weeks now and don’t have any complaints.

Finally I can now have an eclipse heap over 1.5GB to support my obese project.

revoman, that’s great news… we didn’t actually do any work explicitly to support 64-bit, but it sounds like the base Eclipse platform may have stabalized a bit in 64-bit environments to help it along.

We’ll keep that in mind moving forward, thanks for letting us know.

M2 wasn’t quite as successful. The package was not neatly contained in the “dropins” folder and i haven’t had a chance to fiddle with it.
