Randal CobbMemberWebServices Explorer looks like it’s missing almost ALL assets, and is basically unusable. It worked great in 9.0 M1, but not in M2… lots of blank pages with missing icons and no way of navigation, WSDL selection, etc.

Scott AndersonParticipantMadOtis,
We’ve checked on Windows and everything seems to be in order but naturally I want to check this on the Mac as well. To be sure we’re testing
the right thing, can you please provide the steps you’re using and a public web service URL that is failing for you that we can also test against?
What I’m looking for is something like:
1) Launch the “Rest Web Service Explorer…” from the MyEclipse toolbar
2) For WADL URL, use: xxxxx
3) Note that ……
Randal CobbMemberI can’t even get to a point where I can enter a URL… I simply launch the “SOAP Web Services Explorer” and/or “Launch REST Web Services Explorer” and I get the normal 3 panes, but not graphic buttons, no text fields, etc.
If I could submit a screen-shot somehow, it would be extremely valuable here. It looks like a web page with missing CSS or non-functional JavaScript.
I get the outline of where the icons go (for Back, Forward, UDDI, WSIL, etc.), with blue boxes containing white question marks in them. The URLs seem to work in them, but take me to blank pages again.Again, it worked great in 9.0 M1, just seemed to break between M1 and M2.
Scott AndersonParticipantMadOtis,
I’m running MyEclipse 9.0M2 on a Mac and have attached a screenshot showing what the two web services explorers look like for me. If you’re not seeing this it’s likely that something is going wrong on startup. Can you check the following:
1) What does your heap status look like (see the bottom right of the screenshot for mine). You can turn it on at Prefereces > General > Show Heap Status
2) What build id are you running? See the “About…” dialog
3) Have you activated your subscription? See MyEclipse > Subscription Information
4) How did you install? For example, using our downloadable installers, using Pulse, other?Attachments:
You must be logged in to view attached files.
Randal CobbMemberScott,
Here’s what I see:
1) What does your heap status look like (see the bottom right of the screenshot for mine). You can turn it on at Prefereces > General > Show Heap Status
I’m seeing “66M of 132M” immediately after a reboot, starting MEI, starting the internal Tomcat server w/ my services deployed, then starting the SOAP Web Services Explorer.
2) What build id are you running? See the “About…” dialog
Build is:
Version: 9.0M2
Build id: 9.0M2-201101213) Have you activated your subscription? See MyEclipse > Subscription Information
Yes, it is activated and expires on 20110425
4) How did you install? For example, using our downloadable installers, using Pulse, other?
I installed via the “myeclipse-9.0M2-offline-installer-macosx.dmg” download. I’ll download a different package and try installing again.
Scott AndersonParticipantMadOtis,
If you haven’t reinstalled yet, could you try this:
1) Run the same installer again and select the Repair option.
2) Does this change the behavior of the explorer? If not, could you then try this:
1) Download and install our Pulse product from http://www.poweredbypulse.com
2) Launch and either log in as anonymous or get a free account (if you want to easily be able to run the same configs on different machines or share)
3) When the Pulse Explorer comes up you should see MyEclipse 9.0M2 in the “My Profiles” section.
4) Launch MyEclipse by right-clicking on it and selecting “Reinstall then run…”
5) Test the web service explorer again.Does this change the behavior?
Randal CobbMemberI did try the “repair” using a new downloaded copy of the “custom installer” link. I got the same results. I just finished an un-install (and subsequent removal of the /Library/Genuitec/ folder from my system so I can do a full clean install. I’ll try installing via the Pulse method now and see if that helps. FWIW, I’m sure its an environmental issue, I installed 9.0 M2 on my Mac Laptop this morning using the same “custom installer” and it works just as I expect it to on the laptop. the only obvious differences (aside from class of machine/hardware) are the OS levels: My laptop is Mac OS-X Leopard (10.5.8) while my desktop is Mac OS-X Snow Leopard (10.6.6). Again, will try the Pulse method on my desktop to see if it makes a difference.
Cheers!

Randal CobbMemberRe-installing using Pulse solved the problem. Here’s what I tried prior to using the Pulse method:
1) Uninstalled using the previously downloaded installer
2) Deleted the /Library/Genuitec folder
3) Re-installed using the previously downloaded installer
4) Same results – non-functional web service explorers (both SOAP and REST explorers)
5) Again, uninstalled using the downloaded installer
6) again, deleted the /Library/Genuitec folder
7) Installed Pulse
8) Installed 9.0 M2 using Pulse
9) Web Service explorers working as expected. Thanks for the suggestion, and again, I am working correctly now.
Scott AndersonParticipantMadOtis,
Excellent to hear that it’s up and humming. I’ll make sure this thread gets read by development so we can see what might have caused the issues in the different behaviors in the installers — they’re
naturally supposed to be the same. 🙂
Scott AndersonParticipantMadOtis,
One question that came back in is “when you did the initial installation, did you try to customize it in the installer in any way? Or did you just select the
default ‘all’ option?” If you did make some changes to add or remove features at installation time, do you remember what they were?
Randal CobbMemberScott,
I think I’ve found the problem and it looks more like an incompatibility with a 3rd party plugin I installed instead of which installer/installation option I chose. As I mentioned, all worked this morning, so I started installing my needed plugins one-by-one and checking the Web Services Explorers after each install. VI plugin = check, ER/Master plugin = check, Log4E plugin = check, JavaFX plugin = BOOM -> failure. So, I repeated the uninstall, directory clean, re-install (this time via the original installer I used) and it worked just fine, so I re-installed just the JavaFX plugin and the web-service explorers stopped working again. So, it looks like there is some sort of incompatibility in the JavaFX plugin and there was some remnant of it remaining after the first install this morning. I just never realized it was causing any issue until I needed to debug a REST web service last week. To confirm, I was just able to duplicate the breakage on my laptop, too, by installing the same plugin.
FWIW, all installs were using the default ‘all’ configurations.
Cheers, and thanks again for the help!
Randy
Scott AndersonParticipantRandy,
Thanks very much for the detail and verification on this. This is excellent! I’ll be sure everyone knows about this incompatibility in case it surfaces on the forums again.
