Bernard WillemotParticipantHi,
Have a big problem here. Just installed the latest version of MyEclipse to evaluate. Installation went fine, things seem to work OK.
I used the myeclipse-9.0-offline-installer-macosx.dmg.
I closed the version and tried to start another installed version 7.5 and an 8.6 without success. A dialog would appear saying: “The Myeclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library!”.
Digging some deeper, it seems that some files to launch myeclipse in /Library/Common/Plugins are gone.
Example for version 7.5:
-startup
../../../../Common/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20081125.jar
–launcher.library
../../../../Common/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.carbon.macosx_1.0.101.R34x_v20080731Those files are not there anymore.
Anyone can help? I am really in big trouble here.
I don’t understand how a new installation can screw up all other installations. If that’s really the case, maybe people should be warned?
Thank you, BW.
support-joyMemberBW,
Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Can you quickly verify if you are missing the myeclipse.ini file for your 7.5 and 8.6 versions? I would recommend you a re-install of ME 7.5 and 8.6. You may have run into a glitch, the installer is definitely not supposed to cripple older versions of MyEclipse. We are trying to reproduce his issue locally.
My apologies for the inconvience caused.
Bernard WillemotParticipantJoy,
Yes, this really. I am totally screwed. You know those versions/workspaces that you customized for years…
I am not missing myeclipse.ini files. I suspect that the installation of the version 9 did replace all the stuff in /Library/Geunitec/Common which results into problems starting the other versions.
I don’t know how I am going to get out of there. Many project still include Flex Builder 3, etc…
Bye, BW.
Bernard WillemotParticipantJoy,
I finally succeeded to fix the 8.6 version by reinstalling it through Pulse 3.2. The installation recreated the missing stuff in /Library/Geunitec/Common/ directory.
But the biggest problem is now to fix the 7.5. Impossible to install it with Pulse:

Working already for more than 30 hours on this issue – hope it will come to an end soon. It’s a pity that we have to spend more time to install/update/configure our IDE than to develop a whole project.
Bye, BW.
Scott AndersonParticipantBW,
First, I want to apologize for this installation problem. We do extensive testing for both old and new versions but obviously there is something here that we missed. I want to let you know that we’re looking at this as a very high priority item right now and I’ll post back later today with steps to correct your 7.5 installation. As for the 8.6 install, you did exactly the correct thing using Pulse to fix it. That should have worked with 7.5 as well, but we’ll look into it and see what is going on.
Best regards,
–Scott

Brian FernandesModeratorBW,
I’m extremely sorry your prior installations were affected in this way. We do test these cases and I cannot explain how this occurred, we are investigating internally to see why this could have happened, but of course this won’t help fix your issues.
To elaborate Joy’s answer from earlier, I would recommend that you:
1) Install Pulse Explorer (use anonymous login or create an account)
2) You will see your 8.x and 7.x profiles listed in the explorer.
3) Simply right click them and choose “Reinstall & Run” from the context menu.
This step will fix your installations AND also install all the additional plugins that you had installed for those profiles.
If you need help with Pulse Explorer, you can look at this FAQ:
https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/installation-how-to-install-myeclipse-from-pulse/
This FAQ covers the installation of new Profiles, you would not have to do this because you should see your profiles already installed in the bottom left pane of the explorer.Your workspaces too are not damaged or affected, almost all your preferences and customizations are stored in the workspace and if you point your installation to that workspace, you should see that all your settings are intact.
The new installer will add to the Common folder – for the new binaries that are part of MyEclipse 9, but will never remove bits from there, but we are rigorously testing again.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused, please let me know if you need further assistance.
Scott AndersonParticipantBW,
While the team is researching what caused your prior versions of MyEclipse to become corrupted, I verified that the jar mentioned in your error log
com.genuitec.eclipse.aspphp.core 7.5.0.zmyeclipse75020090612.jar
does exist on our download servers and therefore should have been retrievable when you tried to reinstall MyEclipse 7.5. Just to ensure there wasn’t an intermittent connectivity issue that prevented Pulse from correcting the install, could you please try launching the Pulse Explorer one more time, right-clicking on your MyEclipse 7.5 profile, and selecting “Reinstall then run…”? This really should download the necessary jars and fix the install, just as it did for your 8.6 installation. Please let me know whether or not this fixes the install or if you see a different error. We’ll continue to research…
Best regards,
–Scott

Bernard WillemotParticipantScott,
I tried it again. Don’t know exactly how, as it was the first time I used the pulse explorer, but now when I tried to re-install the version 7.5 in a new profile, he downloaded all the software again… Something that might have trigger to re-download is that I logged-in in pulse in stead of anonymous – but as I did not see my profiles, I did restart it and connect anonymously. Seems that it works now!
We’re almost there. I had to remove the flex builder 3 from the 7.5 installation cause it generated some problems to do the re-installation. Thought it was better just to remove it to have a clean installation.
Now, just have to try to re-install it – which I remember was a pain. Seems to be easier now with the new versions and the drop-ins folder.
As we thought re-installing the version 7.5 did add the missing stuff in the /Library/Geunitec/Common directory.
Joy, Scott & Brian, big thanks for your help. Excellent support! Good luck with finding out what caused the problem – I read somewhere that pulse was purging unused plugins… could that be a hint?
Bye, BW.
Scott AndersonParticipantBW,
Glad the re-install got your 7.5 instance working again. That’s great to hear!
As for installing Flex into MyEclipse 7.5, we still have a write-up for how it was done then here. Of course, for MyEclipse 9.0 you’ve noted that the dropins works much better for that. 🙂
We’ll keep looking into what caused the cleanup of the older installs. We’ve tried a number of scenarios and none have reproduced the failure, which is good news because it means the issue isn’t widespread. However, we’d still like to figure out what happened in this case.

Bernard WillemotParticipantDear Support,
Bad news!
After everything was successfully re-installed, I did want to have a look again at the 9.0 version. Flash Builder was already installed since the beginning of the evaluation. I saw that there was 4.0.1 version of Flash Builder so I downloaded it and replaced the plugin in the drop-ins folder. When starting the version 9.0 – it told me that 4.0 was removed and 4.0.1 was installed!
Had a quick look at it, but needed to finish something in my 7.5 version. So I closed the version 9…
…wanted to start MyEclipse 7.5 – guess what? Back to square 1 (top of this topic). All the necessary files are gone again. Tried the version 8.6 – same thing, files are gone!
The good thing for me is that the version 9 seems to be broken as well. Try to start -> no message at all, but nothing happens. In the console I can see:
/Applications/MyEclipse/MyEclipse 9.app/Contents/MacOS/redirect-to-install: line 3: /Applications/MyEclipse/MyEclipse 9.app/Contents/Profile/myeclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/myeclipse: No such file or directory
Yes, it’s not there! I don’t know anymore. Will re-install the 7.5 & 8.6 again and keep the situation like it is. I was thinking about installing version 9 via the pulse, but in case you would have questions regarding the setup…
Have a nice day, BW.
Scott AndersonParticipantBW,
Wow, that was unexpected and unfortunate, but in all honesty quite illuminating for us as it gives us an direction of investigation for reproducing this issue and then fixing it. From what you’re reporting we believe the problem has to do with garbage collection when dropins are used in the 9.0 installation. We’ll be researching that at a very high priority internally to see if that hypothesis pans out and then determine next steps once we know for sure what the cause is.
We realize that this is really inconvenient for you and sincerely thank you for working with us to provide details so we can make sure we get this behavior fixed as soon as possible. For the time being, your workaround of installing 7.5 and 8.6.1 and not installing 9.0 on your particular system is the best workaround we can offer. However, we WILL get this taken care of shortly.
Scott AndersonParticipantBW,
Well, we’ve been trying to reproduce this issue throughout the day and here’s the latest report from our test team:
his is what I did to try and reproduce the issue faced by the user:
Test – 1
1. Installed MyEclipse 9.0 from the offline installer on to a system that already MyEclipse 7.5 and 8.6 installed from the respective offline installers
2. After install, did not launch MyEclipse 9.0 and quit the installer
3. Downloaded Adobe Flash Builder plugin for eclipse, installed using the ‘Existing Eclipse Installation’ option. For this I chose the MyEclipse 9.0 installation
4. Launched MyEclipse. Pulse-Dropin notifications dialog reported successful installation
5. Shut down MyEclipse 9
6. Launched MyEclipse 7.5 and 8.6 and they both launched without any issues.Test – 2
1. On the same machine, uninstalled all MyEclipse installations – 7.5, 8.6 and 9.0
2. Cleaned the temp directory, the Genuitec directory under Program Files
3. Also uninstalled Flash Builder
4. Installed MyEclipse 7.5, launched workbench, made sure everything was okay.
5. Installed MyEclipse 8.6, launched workbench and made sure everything was okay again
6. Repeated steps 1-6 from above and I could still start MyEclipse 7.5 and 8.6 without any issues.I still cannot reproduce the user’s issue at any level.
As you can see we’re trying a number of techniques that we believe is the path you followed. However, since we can’t reproduce the problem we’re hoping that you can look through those steps and tell us where what we’ve done is different from what you’ve done? Also, in order to facilitate a better information exchange we’d like to move this off the forums and into our support email system. To do that, can you please just send an email to support@genuitec.com with your answer to this post as well as the URL so we can tie the two together internally and work with you a bit closer on getting this resolved.
