Hi, I’m seeing a popup when opening MyEclipse that says: An internal error occurred during: “Update Installed JREs”. I have included the stack trace, session data, and installation summary. Can you help me diagnose this?

    Thanks!

    mspaugh1,
Can you list out any third party plugins that you have added?

Also, can you try using the -clean command as given in the link below –
    http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-10280.html

Hi, thanks for the reply. I added the -clean command to my startup link so it now looks like this: “C:\Program Files\Genuitec\MyEclipse Blue Edition 8.5\myeclipse-blue.exe” -vmargs -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m -clean”. Adding -clean seems to have done the trick for the following error popups:

An internal error occurred during: “Update Installed JREs”
An internal error occurred during: “Initializing Java Tooling”

However, I’m still seeing errors in my error console. These errors are as follows. I should also mention that I brought a RAD project into my workspace after installing the IDE. After doing so, I also used “Enhance RAD project to work with MyEclipse”. Further, when viewing project properties, I see that there are some missing builders and I’m wondering if those have something to do with this.

A couple examples of missing builders:
    com.ibm.wtp.migration.MigrationBuilder
    com.ibm.etoos.j2ee.ui.LibDirBuilder
    com.ibm.etools.webtools.additions.linksbuilder

Problems occurred when invoking code from plug-in: “org.eclipse.core.resources”.

    mspaugh1,
Can you clarify when exactly you are getting those errors?

The company I work for recently bought MEB and so far all 3 developers who installed are getting the same errors described in this post. However, when we add the -clean to myeclipse-blue.ini, we still get the errors. The “Initializing Java Tooling” progress bar stays at 1% for a few mins before it finally gives up and throws the error. The messages appear approx 3-6 mins after starting MyEclipse Blue Edition 8.5.

We have approximately 2 dozen projects (all needed) which have been migrated from WDSC v6 and NO plugins (all installs are new/fresh). The errors do NOT occur if we remove our projects from the workspace or if we close all of the projects.

Any help with resolving these errors would be appreciated. Thanks!

By the way, my myeclipse-blue.ini file looks like this:
    myeclipse-blue.exe -clean
    -startup
    ../Common/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.201.R35x_v20090715.jar
    –launcher.library
    ../Common/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.0.200.v20090519
    -install
    C:/Program Files/Genuitec/MyEclipse Blue Edition 8.5
    -vm
    C:/Program Files/Genuitec/Common/binary/com.sun.java.jdk.win32.x86_1.6.0.013/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll
    -configuration
    configuration
    -vmargs
    -Xmx512m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m

    jessewien,
can you give us some more information?
    1. Can you copy paste your installation details from MyEclipse > installation Summary > Installation Details?
    2. Are there any errors logged in the log file located at workspace dir > .metadata > .log?
    3. How did you import your projects into the current MyEclipse Blue workspace? Did you enhance your projects to work with MyEclipse?

    3.)
I imported my projects by right clicking in the Navigator view and going to Import >> Existing Projects into Workspace >> selecting folder of projects. I then enhanced all RAD projects to work with MyEclipse. Note: there are still some minor errors that exist in the projects, although I assume these are not related. One more thing I should note is that I am using the ClearCase SCM Adapter.

    jessewien,
I shall escalate this issue to the dev team member.
They will get back to you on this.

I still have not heard from the dev team. Any idea when I will hear from them on this issue?

    Jessewien,

This actually appears to be a failure by the Eclipse platform to return a simple list of projects in your workspace. I have a few questions that may help us figure this out:
    1) Are these projects unusually large or do they have many JARs in them?
    2) Are all your team mates using ClearCase? Would it be possible to disable clearcase and test?
    3) Did your colleagues create workspaces themselves or did they copy the workspace from you?
    4) When you imported the projects into your workspace, did you copy them into your new workspace or leave them in their original locations?
    5) When you enhanced the projects, did you specify a WAS location or did you use the inbuilt MyEclipse libraries?
    6) Would it be possible to close a few projects at a time to ascertain if it is just one (or a few) projects that could be causing the problem? Then those projects can be studied further to see if there are any potential issues within.

Brian, thanks for your reply. Here are the answers to your questions.
1.) No, I consider each project to be of average or small size. Altogether, they combine to power a site that is quite big though.

2.) Yes, all teammates are using ClearCase. I have changed my IDE preferences to not connect to ClearCase, and I get the same error.

3.) All colleagues created their own workspace. They did not copy.

4.) When I imported I did NOT choose to copy the projects into my workspace, I kept the files in their original location… I wasn’t sure what effect copying them in would have on my ability to integrate with source control. Maybe none; I just never did that before.

5.) I think you are on to something important with this question. We used the inbuilt MyEclipse libraries by choosing to “Fix Automatically” to substitute the library with the MyEclipse library. An interesting note is that our old studio (WDSC v6) used WAS 6.0 and in our new ME project’s .classpath file still references was.base.v6. We thought we would still need that in case we can’t get ME working, then developers can resort back to WDSC. When I try to remove the line from the .classpath file I get all kinds of errors when I try running the app. Here is the line from .classpath that I’m talking about: <classpathentry kind=”con” path=”com.ibm.wtp.server.java.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.core.runtimeTarget.v60/was.base.v6″/>

6.) I did as you recommended, and some testing has revealed that the issue does not appear with any of my 10 java projects. It only happens when I open a “web project”… any one of the web projects will cause the error on IDE startup.

Any update on this yet? I can add more info: I removed all references to WAS v6.0 from my projects successfully and the project is now fully compatible and using WAS v6.1. However, the error I described still occurs on every start of the IDE. We would like to fully move all of our developers to MyEclipse Blue, but we’re apprehensive due to this error. Any more details that you can provide would be appreciated.

UPDATE: This is resolved. For anyone else who runs into this issue, here is how to solve it:
The ultimate issue was that along with our move to WDSC v6.0 to MEB 8.6 we moved from WAS v6.0 to WAS v6.1 and J2EE 1.4 to JEE5. Go into each project’s properties >> Java Build Path >> Libraries and remove the WebSphere Runtime. Also go to the MyEclipse >> WebSphere Target Server and choose WAS v6.1 instead of <not set>. If you use a source control system and you will need to have your .classpath, .mymetadata, and .project files checked out before you do this. Check the error log if it still doesn’t work… there may be even more files that you need checked out in order to make the change.
Next, in every project you need to change the .classpath, .mymetadata, and .runtime files: any reference to j2ee 1.4, change to 5.0, and any reference to WAS v6.0, change to v6.1. Actually, I just deleted the .runtime file completely… it doesn’t seem to be used by MyEclipse Blue. After doing this for every project, close all of the projects, and then re-open all of the projects. Restart your IDE. The errors should be gone now.

    jessewien,
Thank you for posting the resolution. I shall report the same to the dev team.
