IdeawebMemberHello Mobione!
The question as headline indicates, is directed towards the upload limit. Why is it that low ?
Appstore have an “Over the Air” limit of 50MB which Mobione chose to follow it seems. But with Wifi connected, the Appstore allows users to download Apps in the size range of 2GB.
The reason why im posting this is because im currently developing a Video app. In this app i surprisingly have video material which takes up space alot faster that normal.
At the moment i have tweaked the 25 videofiles (89minutes total) and 100page PDF book to a total of 195MB.
With your recent announced 2.1 update, with focus on video and audio, i think a lifting off the MB upload maximum is highly needed.
At the moment i cannot test my application with the correct files, but im instead using low KB dummy files…
If you are not going to raise the upload limit, how can i then proceed with developing my Video/Book app ?
Thank you in Advance. Mobione Support team!

SteveFishwickMemberHi,
I don’t know where you saw the 2gb wifi thing but Apple specificly state in their guidelines:
2.15 Apps larger than 20MB in size will not download over cellular networks (this is automatically prohibited by the App Store)
You will struggle to get any user to download an app of 195mb, wifi or cellular. I would think it best to host the videos whilst offering the kind of UX that adds other funtionality, because your pdf book again will not be enough:
2.21 Apps that are simply a song or movie should be submitted to the iTunes store. Apps that are simply a book should be submitted to the iBookstore.
I think 50mb is more than enough since the App Center is only designed to be a OTA temporary distribution solution. You can host the MobiOne web app yourself of any size.
IdeawebMemberHello!
Documentation for the 2GB: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1605342?threadID=1605342
And as you describe the 20/50 mb limit, is only for users on the cellular network.
I have several iphone apps thats over 500MB in size, for instance, GPS, games and such.
My app takes me 7-8 minutes to download and install. That is not a problem for a paying user, which can simply put the phone into their pocket, and wait for it to finish.
The content/data of the App, cannot be hosted online, i dont want to have it hosted, since it premium content. Hosting it online would definitely open up for more security breaches
My app is not simply a song or video, its a 7-screen app, with twitter module, 80mins of coaching DVD, with chapter selection, 100pages of book, with chapter jump selection, 100 pcs of motivational quotes, infirmation about author, and so on…
Thanks for your reply though…
support-octavioMemberHi Ideaweb,
We do plan on raising the maximum file size in the near future, but it is not scheduled to be part of the 2.1 release. We currently reccomend that large audio & video files are streamed over the internet and not packaged inside native apps.
IdeawebMemberHello Octavio.
I really would like to take your recommendation, but here is why i cant…
3G or Mobile Internet, does cost! Not many have unlimited. Especially not with speeds that can support streaming.
So if my customer pays 10$ for the App, they would be pretty dissatisfied when finding out that the App actually cost them ALSO to view.
Mobile subscriptions have limited DATA use, and if limit exceeded, the will get billed. Just imagine, paying for the app, and paying for using it.
I think using the material offline, can also be a feature!
I can understand that if you liftet the MAX upload to the Appstore standard, your server host/traffic would rise, but in some cases we needs this :/
So honestly speaking, what is my alternatives ? I invested nearly 10k$ into this developing workbench, and now im getting dragged under by a upload limit, which by all means SHOULD follow the Appstores/Google PLAY.
Currently trying to work out different solutions to this… Maybe you have a solution?
RashadGloverMemberDid any body help this guy out. Or the support stops here?

We have recently been discussing expanded service capacities. I can’t say anything definitive about potential changes. One of our key goals is to continue providing free access to app center. We all hate being nickel and dimed. But we have requests for 500mb-2Gb apps (approx 50X-2000X larger than the average MobiOne app) or unlimited hosting timeframe (apps and webapps available for download forever) that to support will dramatically increase our cloud services costs to an unsustainable level.
@Rashadgl
Do you have a need for 50mb+ app build support? -
