How hard can it possibly be to keep the roadmap updated? You guys are capable of delivering working software, so spend the 5 minutes it takes to update the roadmap. I don’t need to look at a roadmap that tells me what shipped a year ago, I need to know what to look ahead for. Keep the roadmap updated or get rid of it.

These are fairly harsh words uttered by bsavard, but there is some truth into them. MyEclipse 6.5m1 can be downloaded by now (great job btw!), but this is still not reflected in the road map. Compared to all the hard work you guys put into your product, indeed… how hard can updating such a simple road map be?

I really appreciate that there is a roadmap and have found it useful in the past, but lately it has just become silly. I don’t want to see it gone, I want to see it kept reasonably up to date.

    +1 to sprior.

Look at the roadmap right now: It’s still “MyEclipse Blue Edition GA *Estimated mid-March, 2008 “. In the meantime 6.5m1 has already been released, but you wouldn’t tell from the roadmap. In the past we have been making some strategic decisions wrt our development tools based on your roadmap. Not having a reliable one is rather problematic to us. And besides that, I just personally like looking at the roadmap to see in which direction things are going.

    Please update the roadmap 😉

Sorry for the lag time with the roadmap, agreed that it needs an update. We’ll let marketing and product management know.

    Rkalla,

How did your negotiations with the marketing guys work out? It’s almost a full week later now and still no update. I understand that it may be sensitive to mention what you are going to do in the next quarters, but the least you could do is update the road map to reflect the releases that already happened. There are secrets in that right?

    ps

Tell me if I’m wrong, but I’m guessing the fancy progress bar image is the problem. This probably makes it hard to update the road map in a few seconds. Perhaps you can resort back to a simple text file? With that, updating the road map would most likely be even less trouble than posting replies here 😉

henk, sorry for the delay. Marketing got the roadmap updates: http://www.myeclipseide.org/index.php?module=htmlpages&func=display&pid=329

Once 6.5 drops I want them to get 7.0 on there ASAP, I’ll keep fighting the good fight.
