I just noticed this morning that one of my projects has black asterisks in the project name icon and a few directory icons under the project. The only changes I can think of that may have impacted something is an installation of the SubClipse plugin last week and an upgrade of Tortoise this morning, shortly after which the issue materialized.

There is nothing in the problems tab reported for these black asterisks, and I can’t find anything covering them in the online help or in forums.

What do these black asterisks mean, and how can I resolve them?

The asteriks are most likely source-change indicators by Subclipse, and since you did an update this morning outside of the environment it is likely just seeing the changes.
