mfkilgoreMemberI am looking at 7.5 M1 and it is looking very good. The support for integrating/sharing RAD projects (no more migration) is a very critical addition. What I did not see, and hope that I simply missed it, is support for JSR 286 portlet development. Without that I will be stuck in the RAD environment going forward for some time… I am hoping that either I missed this feature or it will be released in 7.5 final. Please let me know.
Thanks,
note – I realized that my question was added to an older thread in feature request when I really was looking for a specific answer for the upcoming 7.5 release so reposted here.
Loyal WaterMemberIm afraid there are not plans right now to add it in 7.5. Sorry about that.
mfkilgoreMemberNipun,
Ok, so given that this is obviously a critical requirement for anyone moving from RAD to Blue, how soon will support for JSR 286 Portlet be added? Next release? When is the next release? I actually find the delay in this support very odd and not in alignment with what I understand to be the goals for Blue…
Loyal WaterMemberThe push behind Blue is very strong and if we are missing critical pieces to the “Replace RAD” story, we are working hard and fast to close that gap.
JSR 268 is on the map for 8.x, we just haven’t nailed down exactly the release it will go in and I’ll bring it to management’s attention to discuss.
Scott AndersonParticipantmfkilgore,
I wanted to follow up on your comment that:

I could be wrong but it’s my understanding that IBM didn’t add JSR 268 support to RAD until it shipped RAD 7.5 in December. Perhaps you are really asking for support for Weblogic Portal Server in particular, rather than full JSR 268 compliance? If that’s the case, can you list the top 5 things you’d like to see in this area in the next release of Blue? If I’m misunderstanding your post and you really do need full JSR 268 compliance is that because you have production systems that are based on it or because your future development is targeted at it? Any information you can provide would be great as it helps us to give information to the product management team to ensure the correct features get prioritized.
mfkilgoreMemberScott,
The team I am working (large corporation) with has converted all development to RAD 7.5 and is currently targeting all portlet development for JSR-286 on WebSphere 6.1. This includes both conversion of existing portlets as well as all new development. Much work has already been done, as you point out RAD 7.5 was released in December and available before that in beta and pre-release forms. There is a great deal of interest in the new features (e.g. inter-portlet communication) available with 286. IBM is encouraging the move to WebSphere 6.1.
This move is not unique to the client I am currently working with. So yes, I am looking for full JSR 286 support in Blue – today…
I would be happy to talk to you further on this.
Thanks,
Michael Kilgore
Scott AndersonParticipantMichael,
We’d definitely like to follow up further on your insights. I’ve sent you a private message through the forums to discuss next steps.
Heinz DrewsMemberI can’t locate Application Client Projects.
Are they are still missing in the Blue Edition? -
