tmonteitMemberI download your latest installer for 3.0.x.
Its an EXE file that won’t extract anywhere.
I made a directory called ‘myeclipse’. Installer won’t accept my directory. Infact, it won’t accept any directory.
Why can’t MyEclipse install this itself like other plug-ins through the eclipse menus?
Why can’t you put updated install instructions at the download screen? I had to fish through the forums for install instructions. Your install instructions reference a ‘zip’ file.
Mine is a %@%#ing exe file that won’t extract.

It’s possible it was corrupted during the download. Did you compare the file size to the one on the site? It should be around 58MB in size.

Also if you read the prompts during installation, the first step of the installer is asking you for your Eclipse plugins directory, then it asks you for the directory you want to install it to. This is necessary so the installer knows where Eclipse lives, and can create a /links file for you to link the Eclipse platform to MyEclipse.

It’s part of the description right under the link:
Check Support Announcements for special update site instructions…
Your install instructions reference a ‘zip’ file.
Those instructions are for the “Manual Install”, on the download page, about the 4th item down.

I’m confused over the whole ‘manual install’ thing. You mean this isn’t a ‘manual install’? By definition the fact Eclipse won’t install it for me makes the product a manual install. May I recommend you go the standard plug in model where eclipse does the whole thing for you. <Help> <Software Updates> <Find and Install…> < U provide the URL > then, like magic, it works!!
BTW the installer doesn’t ask where my plugins are. On launch it asks: “Please select another location to extract the installer to”; has 2 buttons “Choose…” and “Cancel”. “Choose …” wont’ accept any folders.

Good point, this is a bit confusing. The installer is automated, and our manual installer is pretty much just a ZIP of the product. For folks that have problems running the installer, or system admins that prefer to roll out pre-packaged installs of MyEclipse internally at companies and want total control over it.

We don’t do this because we need folks to click through the license agreement. That’s a lawyer thing… my eyes glaze over when that subject comes up.

I think it’s corrupted. We’ve had a few reports of corrupted downloads doing that. It’s insanely frustrating for us because the installer software doesn’t just short circuit and notify the user, instead it goes in an endless loop and there is nothing we can do at generation time to change that. Sorry about that pain in the ass.
tmonteitMemberThank you… This whole thing was VERY frustrating. And the problem was the download.
Fresh download – problem solved.
It actually says “Install Anywhere is preparing to install” with a status bar; followed by an intro screen.
Riyad KallaMemberWhew, I’m glad it’s working now and I agree, that is very annoying to battle an installer, especially when it’s not telling you what is wrong. Thanks for your patience.
