Please consider bundling a copy of Tomcat 5/5.5 with ME or as a ME addon.

advantages
– ME has a default servlet container available out of the box
– something like Tomcat Manager plugin can be used to reload context
– ME can manage the Tomcat config files like catalina.policy, server.xml, tomcat-users.xml, and web.xml

We have discussed a default app server in the past and the pros just did not out weigh the cons for us to do that. We can have this discussion again at a later date to see if we are at the point where enough users are asking for this that it would make sense for us to go down this path (this becomes a lot more than simply including Tomcat and calling it a day, as you outlined in the bullets above)
