I just installed ME4S 10.6.0-20120831, I need to install Blackberry Plugin and JRE’s. They download just fine but some of the JREs are not configured. If you try to manually configure them I receive an error:

Install Location does not contain filepreverify.exe

The files does exist in the bin directory of the JRE home I am trying to setup.

This issue has only occurred since installed the new version of MyElipse and does not occur if I use Eclipse Indigo.

I checked with Blackberry and no one else if having this issue on Eclipse either.

I am attaching my system config.

    crispyoz,

We do not provide intrinsic support for third party plugins.

Please refer to this forum topic which discusses the same issue :
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Java-Development/Installing-JRE-5-0-0-fails-on-Eclipse-Indigo/td-p/1792747

I suggest you check on Blackberry forums or Eclipse forums for better support.

Pradeep the link you refer to was an issue on the earlier version of the plugin and was resolved by the new plugin released to support Indigo. It works fine on Indigo just not on MyEclipse since you moved to Indigo.

So basically you are saying Blackberry needs to support it, but they do support it on Indigo and it works just fine. So why would Blackberry fix an issue with MyEclipse?

    crispyoz,

Can you please share us the details about how did you installed the blackberry plugin in MyEclipse ?

I could not replicate the issue at my end after installing Blackberry plugin using update site. Can you please try installing Blackberry plugin using the following update site :
    http://www.blackberry.com/developers/jar/win/java

If you have installed the plugin via update site, can you please share us the steps in detail to help us replicate the issue at our end.

I started with a brand new ME4S install on a new machine, using the configuration centre I added the update site you refer to since this is the official Blackberry update site. Select the plugin core. Now you can install 7.0 and 7.1 JRE no problems, but not any of the earlier JRE like 6 or 5.

To be precise you can select these earlier JRE to install and they appear to install and you can see the plugins in the appropriate directory, but if you look at the configured JRE that are not visible. So you then try to manually configure them and you will see the error.

My colleague tried this on his ME Pro and has the same issue

    crispyoz,

Sorry you’re continuing to have this problem. We’ve tried to replicate it without success, so far, but will try on a different set-up and respond when we’ve completed that test. I apologize for the delay.

Have you tried installing just the SDK, separately from the core plug-in, rather than at the same time?

I tried installing the core plugin, this automatically installs JRE 7.1 and 7.0 then I tried restart and install say JRE 5 and reatart. Same issue.. Then I tried a fresh install and same steps. Same issue. Then I tried a new ME4S and just install the JRE with no plugin. can’t configure the JRE because it need the plugin files.

    crispyoz,

I’ve tried again, with a different Windows XP setup but can’t replicate the problem – all JREs are installed fine from the Configuration Center, so I haven’t needed to try to configure a new Blackberry VM separately (the Blackberry JREs aren’t normal JREs so can’t be configured as standard JREs).

I have a couple of suggestions.

You say you have installed a fresh copy of MyEclipse but if it wasn’t a completely clean install, there might be some remnant of a failed installation causing a problem. A completely clean install can be done by uninstalling all previous installations of MyEclipse and ensuring the associated folders are gone. Alternatively, you can edit the .pulse2.locator file and point to a new base installation folder. That file is in your user home folder.

Something else to try is installing via a different method. The easiest is probably to use the Eclipse Marketplace. This is available from the Help menu in release 10.6 and later. Just search for Blackberry and install the appropriate package.

Please let us know if this helps.

    Thanks Tony.

I know it was a completely clean install because my reason for installing ME4S was because I purchased a new notebook and had to install all my software from fresh.

The second machine I tested it on was also a clean install because I set up a new machine on VMWare so if it worked OK I could just copy the files across to the physical machine. My colleague’s machine had never had Eclipse on it before, we only installed it to see if there was any difference on his machine. So we have actually tried on 3 new systems on Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro and Windows 7 home.

I have no Eclipse Marketplace on my help menu, it only has Help Contents, Search, Dynamic Assist, Cheat Sheets, MyEclipse Configuration Centre and About.

When we configure a JRE, where is the configuration saved? Maybe I can just update the configuration manually.

    crispyoz,

Sorry for the delayed response; I lost my internet connection for a day – a digger went through a cable!

I’m afraid don’t know where the Blackberry JREs are stored and couldn’t find them in the .metadata folder tree of the workspace. They aren’t defined as standard JREs so maybe the Blackberry plugin processes them in a particular way. Asking on a Blackberry forum might help.

We haven’t actually tried a Windows 7 platform but I will try that as soon as I can. However, I’m surprised that you can’t see an Eclipse Marketplace menu item in the Help menu, since I’m looking at one right now on ME4S 10.6 on Windows 7. Did the other systems also miss the menu item? Another option is to enable eclipse classic update (from Window->Preferences->General->Capabilities) and use that method of installation (again from the Help menu).

I hope this helps and will let you know about the Windows 7 attempt via the config center.

Hi Tony, was yours a new install? I had no issues on the previous version only after I did a new install.

    Hi crispyoz,

Yes, a new install. The menu item is a basic feature now and I’ve looked for it on several editions in several OSes; it’s there in every one, so it’s really odd that you can’t see it.

I’ve just installed the Blackberry plug-in, with a 7.0 and a 6.0 JRE, on ME4S 10.6 under Windows 7, successfully. I’ll try another set up, when I get a chance, just to tweak a few variables that might have some impact.

When you said you installed it, do you mean you can set your project JRE to use the 6 JRE? 7.0 works fine for me it is 6 and below that have the issue.
