ethutchMemberI had to get a new PC – usually a happy event. But it came with windows 7 of course. We have not become fast friends.
When I try to install ME 9.0 it tries to install under Users which is a terrible place as then my profile backup would include 1GB of ME programs. So I tried to change it to Program Files (where it belongs). But that if forbidden with the message:
“Location is a restricted system directory and can not be used”I will not claim mastery of Win7. But this is very odd indeed. It does this for both Program Files and Program Files (x86). I am of course the administrator – which doesn’t seem to mean nearly as much as it used to. Windows 7 still has very decided beliefs on what I should do with my computer. Administrator is not really analogous to “super user” any more, more like “slightly above average user”.
Oddly searching for this error was not fruitful, which is quite a surprise. What do other people do? Or am I the only one to have this problem?
support-joyMemberethutch,
Due to some permission related issues, installations into c:\program files on Vista and Windows 7 will fail.
To correct your installation, I would suggest
1) Delete the .pulse.locator file from your home directory
1.a) Optionally, delete the locations into which MyEclipse was installed
2) Re-run the installer, accept the default installation locations. If you wish to you an alternative location, please do so, but do not use a location inside c:\program filesLet me know how this works for you.
Best.
ethutchMemberWell that seems like a rather huge bug. Hopefully you will fix it in the next release.
support-joyMemberethutch,
I am afraid, I have not worded correctly. I would recommend you refer to brian’s reply here for a better explanation – https://www.genuitec.com/forums/topic/why-is-myeclipse-9-restricting-installation-directory-still/
