Dear all,

I am trying to follow the flash tutorial for Hibernate support in MyEclipse. However, when I try to add Hibernate capabilities to my project (via project context menu>MyEclipse) I get the following error messge:
“The chosen operation is currently not available.”

Looking at the MyEclipse preferences, under Project Capabilities>Hibernate, I get the following error:

“Unable to create the selected preferences page.
Reason:
Plug-in com.genuitec.eclipse.hibernate was unable to load class com.genuitec.eclipse.hibernate.preferences.HibernateLibraryPreferencePage”.

I have the Hibernate library added to the project alright and I just tried a full reinstall of MyEclipse 4.1.1. GA. No luck, yet. What else could be wrong? Please find my sys config below.

mwunderlich ,

I supposte that you don’t reinstall myEclipse correct
try start with -clean option and if it don’t success then remove all directories
starting with org.eclispe in ECLIPSE_HOME/configuration (all except config.ini), restart
eclipse and reinstall MyEclipse
I don’t sure that MyEclipse is compatible with lomboz (if you have this plugin, try remove it)

I tried starting with -clean, but that didn’t work out. Then I removed the Lomboz plug-in and got an error (see below) when trying to start eclipse. Then I unstalled and re-installed MyEclipse and the error is still there. I have posted the full log below.

Martin,

You have broken instalation – It is better that you install new eclipse (it is better that use eclipse 3.1.2, but it isn’t important).
You have emf, gef and ve installation out of MyEclipse (this isn’t problem, but you have messages like this

In the meantime I have tried what you suggest, i.e. complete reinstall of both Eclipse and MyEclipse. This has solved the problem with the error messages in the log file, but now I am back to the initial stage. That is, I keep getting the error when trying to add Hibernate capabilities.
Any other ideas?

Martin,

It’s strange.
Is it correct ?
you install new eclipse and MyEclipse, make project and when call Add Hibernate capabilities you throw exception (no one page from wizard, just exception).
If yes then your MyEclipse is broken (you don’t download correct file)

Your description is correct. I don’t believe that the MyEclipse install file is faulty. I tried it on a different machine with the exact same install file (4.1.1GA_E3) and everything works fine over there. So, something wrong with the installation on the original machine, but I don’t see how it could not be fixed by re-installing.

Check double that you pick new eclipse install, then add MyEclipse and try new rokspace, first
If it work on other machine then it have to work on every

Martin,

Have you installed EMF or any WTP plugins agains the eclipse base you are using? I noticed some conflicts indicative of this in your early posts.

As snpe suggests, try installing Eclipse 3.1.x to a complately new location, and install MyEclipse against that version.

Hi Brian,

I tried to reinstall again using Eclipse 3.1.2 and MyEclipse 4.1 GA. I installed to a completely new directory which didn’t exist previsouly. I cleaned out the registry prior to installing and only used the base Eclipse installation, with no additional stuff. Finally, I also created a new workspace – and I still keep getting this annoying error. I really don’t know what else I could do.

I suppose that you use MyEclipse 4.1.1 (no 4.1), but it isn’t important for your problem
What kind install you use : manual or windows ?

check you unpacking (unzip) program and see error log just after start eclipse and MyEclipse (is there some log)

I have tried reinstalling again, this time following the “big bomb” approach as described by support colleague Riyad here:

The approach include reinstalling JDK according to the following steps:
First go backup all your projects then let’s try a big bomb approach:

1) Uninstall MyEclipse, erase all MyEclipse dirs.
2) Erase all dirs of Eclipse
3) Download JDK 1.5.0_06 from Sun’s site and uninstall all existing JDKs and JREs from your machine, go make sure the directories are empty to (Restart if necessary).
4) Now also check your environment variables to make sure none are pointing to some random JDK in your system and if you find some remove them
5) Now install the new JDK into a new dir (make sure the dir doesn’t exist ahead of time), be sure to install the JRE to and restart.
6) Now install Eclipse and MyEclipse to new dirs and try a new workspace, does that help?

I can add the desired Hibernate capabilities to my test project now. I’m only wondering, if I’ll have to follow this approach every time that MyEclipse doesn’t behave the way it should.

You have had problems with jdk, probably – I install/reinstall different version eclipse/MyEclipse very often without problems, but when i upgrade JDK, then I remove old one.
MS Windows is very unfriendly if you install different java application.For example, Oracle (and different tools with java) install own jdk sillently and this tools work fine, but other tools have problems.MyEclipse
is fair related on jdk problem, but others don’t.
You will have problems with jdk if start eclipse with less version from build version (you have to use jdk version form eclipse requirements).You can start eclipse with -vm <path-to-jdk> option and then you will not have problems with JDK.

However, step 3 is the most important and it isn’t related to MyEclipse

I suggest using manual install if you install/reinstall often, too
