I recall reading somewhere that I should only download the base eclipse IDE in order to
install MyEclipse.
Does anyone know if it’s ok to download other plugins also such as WTP for eclipse or any of the other many available?

MyEclipse 5.1.0 ships with its own improved version of WTP, so there is no need to install WTP if you install MyEclipse. If you don’t want to install the base eclipse IDE, you can also use the MyEclipse 5.1.0 All-in-one installer, which includes everything you need to run out of the box (JRE+Eclipse SDK+MyEclipse).
