Greetings – I am having a problem with Eclipse/MyEclipse crashing on me. I will startup MyEclipse and it will work fine at first, but then after 1 to 15 or so minutes the app will just crash with a JVM Terminated Exit Code=1 popup message. This problem does not occur with just Eclipse v3.2 and no MyEclipse installed. Also, I have removed every unnecessary program/app from memory including virus checking, so it’s running pretty clean. I have uninstalled everything and reinstalled several times now. There is no pattern to it, it crashes randomly and at different times. Here are some more details…

    Environment (Corporate PC)
1 GB system RAM (with 650MB’ish free when MyEclipse is running)
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1
    Java JDK 1.5.0_06
    Eclipse v3.2
    MyEclipse v5.0 GA

Below is the log file that is created when the error occurred. Any help that you can give me as to what the problem might be would be MOST appreciated. I have lost over 2 days already trying to fix this problem and I have a deadline coming up very soon (as usual).

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

My first suggestions is to upgrade Windows to SP2, there is a pretty major difference between a lot of underlying Operating system level code between SP1 and SP2 + All patches.

Secondly, I would encourage you to change your startup arguments to:
    http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-10087.html

Setting the ms/mx settings along isn’t enough, you need to increase the permGen space as well as Eclipse/MyEclipse are very large products and do a lot of class initialization.

Let me know if that helps. Another option is to upgrade your JDK to the 1.5.0_08 release, but your _06 install should be fairly stable.

Great suggestions – I was already planning to upgrade to SP2, you just gave me the reason I needed. That is done. Before doing this upgrade I uninstalled everything (MyEclipse, Eclipse, Java) so I could start fresh with SP2. Then I installed Java JDK v 1.5.0_09 (now out), Eclipse v3.2, and…

However, I tried to re-install MyEclipse v5.0GA BUT the installation process is giving me the following error: “Please select another location to extract the installer to:”. It’s worth noting that the uninstall of 5.0GA crashed toward the end of the process when I was uninstalling it (prior to installed SP2). So now I can’t re-install v5.0GA. I’ll bet the two are related.

Do you have a cleanup program that I can run, or can you tell me what I can do to get around this error so that I can get MyEclipse installed again. I did’nt really want to use the manual install you have, unless I really have to.

Thanks for your quick replies 🙂

Mark, your installer download is corrupt. Please redownload it and verify your size of the download against the one on the website. This is an annoying problem we’ve had for a long time where instead of failing the installer software just gets stuck in an endless cycle. We have contacted InstallAnywhere about this a few times and are asking for assistence in making more ressilient installers.
