I have a consistent behavior here when editing a jsp file with the JSP Editor. When I type “<form”, the command completion popup gets rendered and then the machine goes into a state where it does not respond to anything.
Here is my configuration:

Riyad KallaMemberWhat is your MyEclipse Build ID from your Window > Preferences > MyEclipse page? Have you tried restarting using the -clean command line argument when launching eclipse? Have you tried creating a new workspace: File > Switch Workspace > C:\tempworkspace (HIT OK), and then tried creating a new web project and duplicating the problem?
GregMemberIs this in the Visual JSP Designer or in the “Classic” JSP editor? Are you in the source page only or in the “Source/Design” page?
Anthony EstelitaMemberI have a similar problem, except my CPU goes to 100% for about a minute and all I am doing is clicking around servlet code within a JSP (using the “Source” view).
I tried to upgrade to the 4.03 to see if that resolves the problem, but it didn’t 😥
Riyad KallaMemberAnthony,
Post the results fo the MyEclipse > About > Configuration Summary dialog for us to see.
Anthony EstelitaMemberHere is my configuration Summary:

Riyad KallaMemberAnthony,
If you navigate to <eclipse dir>\plugins directory, do you see any com.ibm.wtp or com.ibm.sse plugin directories? (note I said eclipse, not myeclipse dir). Also can you try adding:
-vmargs -Xmx256m
to your command line arguments.
Anthony EstelitaMemberI don’t have any com.ibm directories in my eclipse\plugins directory (the only directories i have are org.eclipse.*, org.apache.*, org.junit_3.8.1, and dbedit.*). And I am already starting up my eclipse with the following args:
start c:\eclipse\eclipse.exe -nosplash -vm c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_04\jre -vmargs -Xmx256m
Riyad KallaMemberAnthony,
One of our developers asked this:Q: is the guy’s disk spinning like crazy during these incidents?
I’m wondering if this guy is experiencing the classic Window’s swap storm
when Eclipse/ME grab a ton of RAM early in an Eclipse session? I’ve been
running with the KeepResident plugin and 1M RAM for the last year and my
swapping interruptions have been minimal. Before that I would just get up
and walk off from my machine as it would swap for up to 2-4 mins and
appeared locked up.Next time it locks up, can you check the HD light to see if the disk is thrashing, and then try his suggestion above if i t does?
Anthony EstelitaMemberThe hard drive light wasn’t on when the CPU maxes out; however I did install the plugin to see if that will help but unfortunately it still happens
(I tried the following settings: minimum 100mb, maximum 256mb, and “use virtual lock” checked).I am not sure if this helps or not, but I have two workspaces one for each release of the product I am working on, and one workspace I do not experience this problem; but the other I do? Go figure?? (ugh).
[/img]
Anthony EstelitaMemberOne other thing I forgot to mention (not sure if it will help), the 100% CPU utilization also not only happens when clicking around the servlet code but also when holding down the ctrl key. Just holding down the ctrl key while the inline servlet code has focus takes up 100% of the CPU for a good minute or so. :-((
Riyad KallaMemberThis sounds very fish to me, especiallly since it doesn’t happen in another workspace. Try and edit your eclipse.ini file or edit the shortcut you use to start Eclipse and add -clean to it, see if that stops it from happening. If not, my suggestion would be to create a new workspace and use File > import to pull your projects from the old busted workspace in to the new one.
Anthony EstelitaMemberYup very “fishy” :-). I tried the -clean command line option and that didn’t help at all. I recreated the workspace importing all my projects from the other workspace and the problem went away. Any idea on what may cause my other workspace to be, in lack of a better term, “hosed”?
Thank you very much for the help and suggestions too!!!
Riyad KallaMemberI’m sorry at this time I don’t have any idea what hosed the workspace, it is important to note that workspaces in Eclipse hold *everything*, there are pros and cons to that design. In the earlier 1.x and 2.x days, workspace corruption was much more common, as you see it still happens, but hopefully much less often.
