mmogleyMemberI set up a new machine over the weekend with the latest Eclipse 3.2.1/MyEclipse 5.1.0.
I find that I can no longer get the popup context menu by right-clicking. This applies to any part of the IDE, whether in the package explorer or the editor.
Has anyone seen this problem?
Incidentally, I am able to get context popups in other apps.
This is a critical feature for me. Thanks for any suggestions.
Michael
Scott AndersonParticipantMichael,
That’s certainly peculiar. Did you install Eclipse and MyEclipse individually? Or did you use our “all-in-one” installer? Off the bat, I’d try restarting with -clean one time as detailed here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-10280-highlight-clean.html
mmogleyMemberI installed them separately. Actually, I had a MyEclipse5.0 install file that I used. After I installed Eclipse 3.2 (also from an install file I already had), I went to Software-Updates and synced up with all available updates. This included Eclipse 3.2.1 and MyEclipse 5.1.0. Was this wrong? Should I try to reinstall with the all-in-one?
Michael
mmogleyMemberAlso, I did do a -clean. Didn’t seem to help.
Scott AndersonParticipantMichael,
Should I try to reinstall with the all-in-one?
I really think that will get you to a working installation the fastest at this point. Just install and open your old workspace to get going again (with context menus) ;-).
mmogleyMemberThat worked. Thanks. Wish I didn’t have to reinstall from scratch though.
mmogleyMemberActually I still installed Eclipse and MyEclipse separately. But I first blew away the old versions (so no update-manager involved).
dwildcat92MemberI have this exact same problem. I was upgrading from MyEclipse v4 to v5.1. So first I installed Eclipse 3.2.1 with Web Tools(wtp-all-in-one-sdk-R-1.5.2-200610261841-win32.zip). Then I installed 5.1 of MyEclipse. I first imported my prefs from the previous install then I pulled down a project from CVS. That’s when I noticed my context-menu (right-click functionality) doesn’t work.
Just FYI, before I installed the new MyEclipse I did an uninstalled v4, I renamed my old Eclipse directory to Eclipse_old, and I exported some prefs from the old eclipse 3.1 that I had. Hope that was enough to get the problem fixed.
md_luceMemberI just installed new updates from wtp, myEclipse Discovery, and mylar. Now I have no context menus when I right-click.
Scott AndersonParticipantThese issues are typically caused because MyEclipse is built *on top of* WTP and it’s required stack. As a result, we highly recommend beginning with a fully functional MyEclipse install and then adding additional tools to it, not beginning with a WTP install of some sort and adding MyEclipse. Details the recommended installation order are in the release announcement here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-14982.html
The easiest way to get a working MyEclipse install is simply to download the “all-in-one” installer from our download section and install that. Once that’s done, use the MyEclipse discovery site to install Matisse4MyEclipse, then install the rest of what you want (Mylar, etc.)
DISMemberI really like your product but these install issues are a real pain. Seems like every time I install a new version some quirk appears and I have to re-install. So that I can go back a version I usually install the latest eclipse to a new directory and then install myeclipse, again, to a new directory. This time I get the disappearing context menu and last time the jsp editor issue.
David Orriss JrParticipantThe only time I’ve ever seen any of these behaviors is when I try to install/upgrade on top of an existing installation. This rarely (if ever) has worked for me. I’ve learned to install to a new directory, point to my current workspace, and then if the new version is working delete the old one. I’ve found that if you are going from a .1 to a newer release (i.e. 5.0 to 5.1 or 3.1 to 3.2 eclipse) that you will be best served making new installations.
I personally blame Eclipse for this. Their plug-in model promises much, but delivers little more than Eclipse’s own version of DLL hell.
Just my two (s)cents.
