I am having a very wierd issue. When I edit a file and save it, it is saving the file, but not updating file attributes. I noticed this when using subversion (TortosieSVN and Subclipse plugin). I have since removed both, but still the problem persists.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Ken

On other thing. When I edit the file using notepad, the file attributes are updated (Date/Time). I am running Eclipse Castillo 3.2.0 with My Eclipse 4.9.200 all on Windows.

    Ken,

Which editor are you editing and saving the file in, and what are you using to check the attributes? If you save the file in eclipse, then open the file in an external editor, do you see the new content?

Could you answer all other relevant questions asked here: Posting Guidelines
Please pay special attention to the Error log and paste that here if any errors are thrown on save.

    Best,
    Brian.

I am using the Java Class editor. Once I edit and save the file, if I open it with notepad I see the change to content, however the timestamp is not updated. If I edit the file with notepad and save, then the timestamp is updated. I have also noted that for my build to work, I have to do a clean, even if I have automatic build turned on.

Some other things to note, it seems to be a problem with my configuration. I have already uninstalled MyEclipse, removed eclipse and reinstalled everything. My first install, I had installed Subclipse as well, but I do not have it installed now. My latest install is just eclipse, and I still have the problem.

I am sure it is something stupid, I have been pullingout my hair on this one. Thank you for you help.

Oops! My bad forgot to add the configuration information. Here you go:

<SNIP, please use MyEclipse > About MyEclipse > Installation Summary, it’s a summarized version of that huge dump>

    A few things.

    1) Start MyEclipse, select a file, write down the timestamp.
    2) Edit the file, save it (remember your modification) and check timestamp (be sure you are waiting atleast a minute before saving). Close the editor, restart MyEclipse
    2) Reopen your file, is the change there? Don’t do anything, now check the timestamp on the drive, is it still right/wrong?
    3) Edit the file, save it again, check the timestamp. Still right/wrong?

If any of the timestamps above were wrong AND you are positive you waited atleast a minute before editing and saving, try the exact same steps over again with a new workspace: File > Switch Workspace > C:\tempworkspace, hit OK to restart, and report back your findings please.

So it appears to have magically resolved itself. Not sure what the deal was. I will continue to watch this and see it pops up again.

Thank you for the very detailed followup, I’m glad to hear it’s working correctly again. Sometimes if the document gets corrupt you can *see* saved contents, but after restarting the file contents have been magically reverted, but that didn’t sound like what was happening here cause you could see the correct contents with notepad.

Either way glad it’s working now.
